New Year’s Traditions From Around the World December 2023
We probably say this every year but, seriously, where did 2023 go? I can not wait for 2024, it is going to be a great year!
Do you have any traditions or things you like to do on New Year's Eve? Please do share. For the first time, I'm going to try something new and that is cutting a pomegranate with the open front door facing in. They do this in Turkey, I'll let you know if it works.
Here are some New Year's traditions from around the world;
-Brazil- go to the beach to celebrate the new year
-Scotland- this one is called first footing. To have good luck throughout the year, the first visitor in the new year should be a tall and dark-haired male and he must bring with him whiskey, coal, shortbread and a black bun
-Japan- the Buddhist priest rings the bells 108 times. In Buddhism, there are 108 earthly desires, each ring will remove one earthly desire
-Greece- hanging onions by the front door for good fortune all year long
-Spain- put twelve grapes in their mouth at midnight
In Turkey, mezes(the picture I posted on this post) usually make their way to the table for New Year's Eve.
However you choose to celebrate it, I wish you a very Happy, healthy, Prosperous New Year!
