Take Down Your Christmas Tree Day: January 6

TODAY, JANUARY 6TH, IS TAKE DOWN YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE DAY

Have you already taken down your Christmas tree?

Or have you waited for January 6th to take down your tree?

January 6th is also known as the Epiphany, Little Christmas, or Three Kings Day. It marks the end of the 12 days of Christmas and celebrates the arrival of the Magi (the Three Kings) to visit the baby Jesus. Traditionally, this is seen as the closing of the Christmas season. And did you know there is a superstition that it's bad luck to keep Christmas decorations up after January 6th, potentially hindering the growth of crops and greenery in the coming year.

Superstitions aside, in my case, my trees will stay up through tomorrow -- which is Russian Orthodox Christmas, which follows the Julian calendar. While I'm not Russian Orthodox, my grandmother was and we always celebrated two Christmases, as a result.

Of course, there's no hard and fast rule about when you should take down your Christmas tree. Some people prefer to keep it up for a bit longer, while others are eager to get it out of sight as soon as possible.

Making The Most Of Taking Down Your Christmas Tree:

  • Get the whole family involved by turning it into a fun activity: play carols, make hot cocoa, and share favorite memories from the holiday season.

  • Recycle your tree responsibly. Find out about your community's tree recycling programs.

  • Pack away your decorations with care. Label your containers to make next year's decorating a breeze. Tips to store your Christmas tree ornaments.

  • Plan ahead for next year. Reflect on what you loved and what you might change about your decorations for next season.

Jeff Dowler, CRS good morning, Jeff... I figure that there's so much work involved in putting up several trees, I want to enjoy them as long as I can.

Endre Barath, Jr. good morning, Endre... I managed to pack away most of my Christmas decorations earlier this past week. It will take me maybe three hours later today to take my trees down.

Good Sunday afternoon, Nina.

Frustrations abound on ActiveRain today.

Have a great day and a productive week.

Nina, when I got home, I took the wreath down from my front door - LOL.   In Denver it is common not to take down decorations until after the stock show is over.

Roy Kelley it's insane here right now. I've made a decision to remove myself from this platform as of today. Maybe I'll return one day and maybe I won't.

Joan Cox I keep mine up until Russian Orthodox Christmas/Epiphany. I just spent 5 hours "de-Christmasing" my house and I'm exhausted. I've decided to leave AR as of today. The craziness here is just over the top.

That is quite a while to take down Christmas!   That is why I stopped back in October.

I do understand but just want you to know I'm going to miss you on AR Nina Hollander, Broker . I'm not sure how much longer this site will be operational.

Joan Cox that was on top of 5 hours earlier last week taking down all the other Christmas decorations around the house. It's definitely a process.

Kat Palmiotti thank you, Kat. That is also at the back of my mind so since I've got no real ROI from AR, I see not reason to invest time here. My only ROI are the friends I've made here, but there are other ways to stay in touch at the end of the day.

Our tree is still up, but we're going to take it down today (maybe, I really like how it looks)!

Kat Palmiotti I knew if I didn't take them down yesterday. they'd probably still be standing there at the end of the month. But now my house looks naked.

Being that Christmas isn't over until January 6th, that seems like a good day to take the tree down, haha.

Brian England good morning, Brian. It totally amazes me when people put up their decorations ahead of Thanksgiving and then take everything down before the 12 days of Christmas are up.

Nina Hollander, Broker - Although I love Christmas time and Christmas trees, I haven't put up a tree for more than 20 years. I wish I could! If I could, I would.

If houses are on the market and they still have Christmas trees and decorations, it's definitely a high priority to put that stuff away.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP hi Patricia... there were only a handful of times that I didn't put up a tree -- two Christmases when we lived in Abu Dhabi. We went on Safari to Kenya and were living in temporary quarters; the next Christmas I went home to NY City. The two years I lived in San Francisco I didn't put up a tree because I was in NY City for the holidays. Otherwise, I've always had a tree, single or married.

I ordered a new wreath for the front door once the wreaths went on sale - and then I ordered 7 wreaths for the windows on the front of the house - they were REALLY on sale

Lise Howe hi Lise... I've used the same front door wreath since 2001. Fortunately it's always been protected by a covered front porch so it still looks as good today as when I first bought it.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP thank you, Patricia, for the update. But I have no confidence that this platform will run fine consistently going forward. Their track record is not great. And given the attitude of AR suggesting I leave the platform I'm not coming back for some time, if ever. But there's no way you and I will lose touch just because I'm not active in the Rain. Trust your New Year is off to a great start and that you are also staying happy and healthy.
