One of our long-time, local real estate brokers, Shirley Hooks recently passed. She forged the real estate community in our area for many decades. Not only was she a force in real estate, she was instrumental as a major philanthropist and community leader on many fronts.
Shirley, who was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, owned and operated the Century 21 office on our Square. They purchased the iconic building on N. Crockett Street and ran their real estate business from it for many years. Both Bill and Shirley made a lasting impact on our town and both are extremely respected and loved.
For myself, my husband and I had the privilege of working with Shirley on the purchase of her building a few years ago. We shared our vision with her about our plans for the building and she was excited to see it take shape. This is the building we renovated and have our hotel, N on the Square.
We dedicated and named the first hotel room that looks over our Square after Shirley. The Shirley Ann Suite is also decorated with the accent color of lavender which is her favorite color. Thankfully, she was able to see the finished room and she was thrilled.
I am forever grateful to have known both Shirley and Bill! I loved and admired them both. These two legends will live on in our town because of their generous hearts and their love of people. They created a legacy that will inspire others.
Thank you, Shirley, for your hearty laugh, tight hugs, and wonderful humor. Until we meet again, my friend.
