This Week…Weathering the Weather

Weather or some form of it is always around, whether or not you want it.

Climate is what we expect, weather
is what we get.

Mark Twain

Houston had temperatures below freezing earlier in the week and the plumbers are having a hey-day here.

Our friend’s pipes froze so they had to wait all day for them to thaw.

Thankfully there were no leaks!

Conversation about the weather is the last refuge
of the unimaginative.

Oscar Wilde

We had 70-degree temperatures on Thursday but we’re back in the 20s for this morning.

Of course, this pales in comparison to the temperatures up north.

Don't knock the weather; nine-tenths of the people couldn't start a conversation if it didn't change once in a while.
Kin Hubbard

It’s funny about the topic of weather. When we pass our walking buddies, it’s the first thing we say…How do you like this cold???  Or…I can’t wait for spring!

You’d think we’d be a bit more original but it’s a quick way to say something other than “hello.”

Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. John Ruskin

Enjoy your weather this weekend!!!

Good morning Kathy. I sometimes think Mark Twain had Chicago in mind when he spoke of "Climate is what we expect, Weather is what we get".  If you don't like the forecast here, wait 30 minutes! Stay warm. Chicago is currently cold. Enjoy your day.

Hi Wayne Martin  we managed to get out for a walk this morning but it was below 32 degrees. That didn't last long but at least we got out. At lease we had sunshine.

Hello Kathy - while the other quotes were familiar to me, the words from John Ruskin were new to me.  They added nicely to those I recalled.  Meanwhile, the Oscar Wilde quote is an example of his wit at its best (or is that worst) whatever the topic.  Whether-wise or is that weather???

Michael Jacobs I love quotes from Oscar Wilde. One of our walker -buddies told us last week that he was not coming out if the temps were below 40. Next week will be warmer but also rainy.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 I agree. We check to make sure it's not going to freeze overnight. The last thing we need is frozen or broken pipes.

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty we've been pretty lucky. Nothing like 2021. Make sure she protects her pipes. Temps will hover just above freezing overnight.

We were happy it was back into the 70's this past week!  Phoenicians don't do well with freezing temps (ok so I speak for myself)!!.  Albeit it won't be too cold (60's) it is cloudy and rainy for the next 4 days.

Anna "Banana" Kruchten sun and now winds make all the difference, don't they. I'm sure people thought we were nuts this morning because we followed the sun while we walked. As soon as we came upon shade...we turned around.

We haven’t experienced below freezing temps yet this winter, but I suspect we will before long. It’s chilly today in the 50’s. For Floridians that’s chilly.  I bundle up for temps in the 50’s and it’s always a topic of discussion here and around the country.

Joyce Marsh I hear you! When we lived in Delray Beach, we wanted temps at 70+. We had a few freezes when I had to bring all of my orchids in.

Oh wow, Kathy! We experienced a devastating freeze one winter, came home from work and had a beautiful ice sculpture that was designed by the outdoor spigot attached to the house that burst. Stay warm friend!

Hi Kathy,
We need snow and we need rain. We do NOT need it to come in the form of ice. It's rainy here in Yuma for the next couple of days. I'm hoping we're between storm systems during my round of golf today. I'm not a fan of playing in the rain.

Hi Kathy:

The weather has been quite a popular topic in the news recently and lots of people around the country seem to be dealing with stormy, and cold, weather. We've had a fair amount of rain in the last 2 days but it was expected.

Loved Mark Twain's quote - right on target in his typical style.

Kathy Streib - Here in DFW, there were seven cities, including as Fort Worth and Arlington that had pipes burst. If we have another freeze, most likely there will be more. Lots of Plumbers and sirens going on throughout the area.

I left all my pipes running and had hot and cold water up until Friday. When I woke up on Friday there was no hot water. I called the Plumber. They said the pilot light was on but recommended I only leave one faucet in my tub running because by opening up all the faucets, the water tank was not heating. That is something I never heard before, but thankfully, the Plumber was right. He told me to wait for about an hour and check to see if I had hot water. Thankfully, I now have both hot and cold water.

Our buildings and infrastructure weren't designed for this type of weather. I wonder how the people with tankless water heaters are doing. During the February 2021 Freeze, many owners with tankless had water damage.

The evening news tonight is loaded with videos of weather scenes around the nation.  Although, I agree with Oscar Wilde's assessment above about discussions of the weather. It's difficult to ignore, when so much is going in in that realm around the nation.
