Lake Conasauga is located in the Cohutta Wilderness area of the Chattahoochee National forest. It is more or less midway between Chatsworth and Ellijay.
The lake was built in the late 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps and at 3,150 ft above sea level it is the highest lake in the state. It is remote and the roads are curvy narrow dirt forest service roads to get there. When I went the roads were in good shape and no problems getting there with 2wd. If y9u are camping the Forest service does recommend campers no larger than 24ft and personally I would suggest smaller than that.
The campground closes during the winter months but you can visit the lake any time. Enjoy the spectacular views, hiking, fishing, and all that the area has to offer.
