Had I seen this cartoon yesterday I would have worked it into my AI post yesterday: AI, it's Only Natural. As it works out this cartoon works with an experience I had last night.

Midnight Clock GIF - Midnight Clock - Discover & Share GIFs

For reasons yet unknown our power went out around midnight. Oddly enough the silence woke me up. I am used to having a fan on as well as a dream machine that sounds like an ocean beach.

Typically on a late January evening this would be a BIG concern. Most late January evenings in Minot North Dakota offer sub zero temperatures and stiff winds to go along with that but last night the mercury settled around 24 degrees above zero.

Because it was fairly warm out (for ND in January) I did not feel the need to rush out and start my camping generator which I had at the ready since last Fall. Years ago I had the electrician put in a circuit that would allow me to run the generator to power the furnace for just such an emergency. A little after 5:00 AM I decided I better go out and hook it up. Before I could get dressed the power came on (5 hours later).

My wife and I shared our concerns over our nations power grid and all the potential domestic terrorists flooding over our Southern boarder. Oddly enough when the 6:00 AM News came on the top story they reported on was that 10 past National security advisors are sounding the alarm that we are vulnerable to potential domestic terrorists flooding over our Southern boarder and targeting our power grid.

Our power grid is so susceptible to terrorists attacks. Given what recently retired FBI agents communicated to Congress, we should be very concern. We also have a generator and looking to purchase a solar one as well.

The sad part is we do not appear to have any leadership from our government to correct the issues at hand. So, each neighborhood should prepare themselves to help each other get prepared

I sure hope it does NOT happen Will Hamm but it seems to me it would be a very easy target.

Those southern interlopers need not worry too much as the current administration may welcome them and even offer them a paycheck.

Hi Bob- In Feb 2021 Houston had snow and a hard freeze. we were without power for almost  3 full days. Thankfully we had plenty of supplies and our grill. It was shortly after that when Larry put together a generator for us. We are always stocked.

Well let me bite my tongue about the power grids......... here in CA they want everyone to be electric, no gas stove, no gas car... but during the summer they complain about turning down our A/C because of saving electricity... now with that said when we have a power outage my Internet provider's box starts beeping like there is no tomorrow:)Endre

We were without power for three or four days a few years ago. Had we not had a generator it would have been very uncomfortable.

Kathy Streib tell Larry "good job" from me. Let him know from a maintenance view he should run a tank of gas through it at least once a year and to ONLY use non-ethanol gas. 3 days without power is crazy.

Endre Barath, Jr. I have never needed to draw my weapon BUT a non-stop beeping box just might do it. 😉 As far as that ban on natural gas it amazes me they don't realize that a large amount of electricity is generated by natural gas powered power plants.

I can imagine Kat Palmiotti . I find it uncomfortable when we don't have a generator for camping for a weekend.

I agree completely that our power grid is at risk for terrorist attacks and yes - Endre Barath, Jr. - California's power grid is a joke - and when was the last time your public utility commission authorized a new power plant.  The problem with the not in my back yard mentality is that you won't be able to leave your backyard when California runs out of electricity because the grid totally fails so all those people better like their back yards!.

It really is scary Lise Howe . Not only is it fragile it doesn't make sense. When I lived in Underwood ND we were 5 miles (as the crow flies) from a power plant. Where did we get our electricity... from MN 300 miles away! In what world (aside from a political world) does that make sense?
