Remember the old saying "Be the Best That You Can Be" ?
I did a quick google search and gave up after trying to find the original author...google could only find 3,800,000 answers for me.
Anyways...I was commenting on a blog and came up wih an insanely long reply in her comments and wondered whether it would be a good blog in and of itself. So with a few changes and additions/deletions I decided to give it a go.
First here is Dr. Paula McDonald's link to her blog which is way better than mine: https://activerain.com/blogsview/5827130/little-league-sports---real-estate
I coached both girls and boys youth sports across many different years and types of sport. I even taught swimming lessons. One thing I realized early on was that most were in a steep learning curve in a game they had never played before.
Just like our new agents when they start out or all agents/brokers when there is a new "insert your word here" in our industry.
................................................................here is my comment to Paula......................................
I coached youth sports for many years back in the 90's and early 2.000's. Over 15 years. Before that I coached womens softball and coed softball for years.
I Coached T-Ball, Little League Baseball (up to 6th grade), youth Softball for 4 years, Soccer for over 12 years, Basketball for 5 years, and even helped with volleyball one season.
First 8 years were in Colorado Springs and the last 7 or 8 were in Kearney, NE.
By far the biggest issues I had were parents and g-parents. Location did not matter. And skill level did not matter. I coached city championship teams and teams that were not very good.
Most of the kids did their best that they could and that was always my goal...not championships. I had kids who started with me as very young players that never were very good at the sport but were great at other things and kids that went on to win state championships...and again the biggest issue I ever had were relatives of the players.
I treat my agents the same way. I have had agents who are highly successful and agents who were not. The education of these agents when they were new was the same format as coaching...teach the principles of the industry and guide them to the best of my ability towards success in whatever they are trying to accomplish.
I absolutely agree that many aspects of real estate is similar to youth sports. I loved your analogies and do apologize that this response got a bit long winded!

Yes...we ALL need to remember that we ALL started as new agents once upon a time and to make sure we are doing all we can to help our clients reach their goals...even when working with a new agent on the other side.
The new agent will remember how they were treated in the future and that could be a great thing or not so good depending on how you carried yourself through out the transaction.
Until Next Time...when I promise to have a shorter blog...Have a great Day! Mike
