Chew, Chew, Chew

This is NOT another post about the railroads running through Minot North Dakota. I am going to make this post about healthy living.

I remember my Grandmother, whom lived with us, was always full of unsolicited advice and not at all appreciated by a rebellious teenage boy.

My Grandmother was a Saint and I was a real turd, it's one of those parts of my life I wish I could do over but thankfully the Bible says not to curse our youth. God knows many of us are going to be turds in our youth and we are not to be stuck in regret.

Chewing our food.

If you click on the logo you will open a new window with an amazing article telling you a lot more then you can imagine on the benefits of chewing your food. A brief synopsis is: You might be surprised to learn how important chewing food properly really is and how many functions chewing affects. Chewing your food properly is essential for adequate digestion. Meals should be eaten sitting down, in a relaxed environment to ensure that food is sufficiently chewed.

Obviously that is NOT how a teenage boy eats. We inhale our food as teens. Gosh, I wish I would have listened to Grandma.

Funny how maturity brings us to the knowledge of what flaming idiots we were when young.  Yet the world turns.  m

When our youngest grandson was starting to chew, we would tell him to masticate thoroughly.  He'd smile and slow down so mission accomplished.

Very well said Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho . I don't know how anyone put up with me in those teenage years.

I love that Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 . I have not heard the word masticate in a long, long time.

I remember my dad making us chew every bite a certain number of times (10 maybe?). The lessons did not last - I do eat fairly quickly. This is a good reminder to slow down.

I admire his determination since the skin is the most difficult part of a grape to chew on and also my least favorite, haha.

I love grapes Brian England and of course I bite down on them but I don't ever remember chewing on them.

Hello Bob, growing up in the restaurant business, you either ate fast, now I am always the last one to finish a meal.

I get that Will Hamm and you probably ate on your feet as well. Your having been in the business I'm curious as to if you ever had to preform the Heimlich maneuver?
