So, there I was, watching an episode of "Cheers" on Paramount+. And I caught something. I realized just how fast our culture moves and changes. How fast we lose our perspective. How fast people and terms fall out of usage and knowledge.
They used the term "Siskel & Ebert" to define someone as a film critic. I wondered just how few 20 year-olds would understand that term. Or would they realize who Tip O'Neil or Gary Hart were. Would they understand why dinner always took hours to prepare in "The Brady Bunch"? Or why car seats weren't in their station wagon?
Even in episodes of the original "Frasier", the first few seasons had no cell phones. Does that blow the mind of teenagers that you had to rush home to get a call?
My parents were real estate brokers in the 60s through to the 2010's. I remember in the 70s. We had something extremely high tech. No, it wasn't a cell phone. It was a 2 way radio (just like the police cars of the day had. That way, the office could instantly relay a message to my folks about a sale or a listing.
There is so much that I take for granted in my memories and yet for those in their 20s or maybe 30s . . . they will never know.
