The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch Open March 1, 2024
The beautiful Flower Fields in Carlsbad CA will open soon. The big day is Friday March 1st.
Visitors must book their tickets online for a specific date and arrival time. Tickets are not available at the entrance. Once you are in the facility you can stay as long as you wish (the Flower Fields close at 6 pm).
Don’t expect things to look like the top photo on Opening Day 2024 or the photo below since the Flower Fields take a while to reach their peak. That often happens in late March depending on the weather. However, they are beautiful even when not at peak bloom, and a wonderful sign of spring!
Here’s a video from March 2022:
The Carlsbad Flower Fields have been a popular tourist attraction for over 60 years. There are approximately 55 acres of brightly colored Ranunculus, reportedly millions of flowers. The transitions during the year are fun to watch as the fields change from brown dirt hillside to green plants, then to vibrant colors, and back again to brown dirt when blooming season ends.
The Carlsbad Flower Fields are open annually from March 1st until Mother’s Day, May 12th in 2024.
Here are some of the attractions at the Flower Fields:
- Historic Poinsettia display and orchid greenhouse
- American Flag of Flowers on the south side of the fields. This can be seen from Palomar Airport Road at Armada Drive by Costco
- Santa’s Playground
- Sweet pea maze
- Artist gardens and Bird Aviaries
- Multiple gardens – Butterfly, Mediterranean, Illusion
- Food is available including the Strawberry Shack (serving all sorts of sweet treats), pizza, and more options
Here’s a list of activities to enjoy at the Flower Fields. Be aware that some of these sell out quickly.
Visitors enjoy walking through the fields to experience the flowers close up with wonderful photo opportunities. No drones are allowed, please.
But for a different view, take a ride on the antique tractor wagon and appreciate the Flower Fields during your ride. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 3 to 10 (free for kids under 3). You can purchase tractor tickets once inside with a credit or debit card (no cash).
The Carlsbad Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch are easily visible from the I-5 Freeway looking eastward at the Palomar Road Exit (look for the windmill).
One wonderful vantage point (my opinion) is looking down on the fields from Armada Drive, with the Carlsbad windmill and 180 degree views of the ocean in the distance. It’s an expansive view and it’s free. I often stop by when out showing property or heading to or from the Carlsbad Costco nearby.
Of course it’s not the same as walking through the fields on foot, but you can stop by whenever you want and the views are magnificent!
