Reflecting on 20 Years in Real Estate

Join me as I reflect on this remarkable journey and express my gratitude to clients, partners and communities that have been integral to my success.

Lisa Brown-McDonald, REALTOR® at The Brokerage of New England Realty

Today marks a milestone in my career, as I celebrate 20 years of service representing  home buyers, sellers and investors in and around Fairfield County Connecticut. What began as a venture has blossomed into a career, characterized by resilience, integrity and an unwavering commitment to turning homeownership aspirations into realities. Today I find myself reminiscing about the countless homes bought and sold, families met, the relationships forged and the ever-evolving landscape of the real estate market.

Over the past two decades I've experienced highs and lows, shaped by economic shifts, technological advancements and societal changes.

  • In the early 2000's I witnessed a notable boom in the real estate market. Low mortgage rates and easy access to credit field a surge in home buying activity, contributing to robust market conditions.
  • 2008 housing bubble burst, triggering one of the most severe economic downturns in recent history. A combination of subprime mortgage lending, over leveraging and speculative investing led to a sharp decline in housing prices and a surge in foreclosures. Following the housing market crash, the real estate market underwent a period of gradual recovery with government interventions to help stabilize the market and restore confidence among buyers and investors. Additionally, low interest rates and first time home buyer tax credit spurred demand and facilitated a rebound in home sales.
  • 2020 pandemic, which catalyzed remote work dynamics and reshaped housing preferences. Many sought larger homes with dedicated office spaces and outdoor amenities. Suburban and rural areas experienced heightened demand, as buyers prioritized space, affordability and quality of life. Despite historically low interest rates and robust demand, the housing market faced a persistent challenge of low inventory levels. As available homes for sale remained constrained, limited new construction activity and existing homeowners hesitant to list their properties amid uncertainty. This imbalance between supply and demand exerted an upward pressure on home prices and contributed to competitive bidding wars in many markets. Which we continue to see in some markets today.
  • 2000-2010 saw significant technological advancements, the emergence of social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, as well as real estate portals like Zillow, Trulia and Realtor.com, revolutionized property search and marketing strategies. Virtual tours, 3D modeling, digital staging became increasingly prevalent, providing home buyers with immersive experiences and enhancing the efficiency of real estate transactions. These events have collectively shaped the real estate market, influencing housing trends, consumer behavior and industry practices.  It's been a journey of adaptation, resilience, learning, and continuous evolution in the pursuit of meeting the diverse needs of home buyers, sellers and investors.

What I've accomplished:

  • Opening our doors to The Brokerage of New England in 2015. marked a significant milestone in my career, following valuable experiences with William Raveis and RE/MAX. Located in Danbury, CT our brokerage proudly serves Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven County, fostering strong connections within our communities.
  • One of the most rewarding recognitions has been the Five Star Professional Award "CT Magazine" for over 10 consecutive years. This esteemed accolade reflects on our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional service and satisfaction to our clients, peers and industry experts alike.
  • However, beyond awards my greatest fulfillment stems from the trust and loyalty of repeat clients, their families and friends. Serving them has been an honor and a testament to the relationships built based on integrity, professionalism and genuine care. I'm filled with gratitude for the opportunities to make a positive impact in the lives of those we serve.

What my clients are saying (click here for more testimonials and photos):

  • Realtor of the year! If we ever move back to CT she will be the first we will call. Definitely part of our family - Magana
  • If we end up buying or selling again in the future, she will be the one we call - Oldham
  • By far the best agent I have ever come across. If I move back to the area, there is no question that she would be the first person I would contact for my needs - Mourikis
  • She is very knowledgeable of the marketplace and helped us navigate both the buying and selling of property - Ullathorne
  • We would happily work with her again and act as a reference for her at any time - Johnston
  • We cannot thank Lisa enough for everything that she has done for us, and I highly recommend her 1000x to absolutely anyone - Davids

It's been an incredible journey and feeling an abundance of gratitude for all my loyal clients over the years, for being my inspiration and motivation, it's from your support and trust that has made my real estate journey possible. My husband, family, friends and colleagues, thank you for supporting my long hours, constant phone calls, texts and emails so I could succeed. I'll remain dedicated to helping new and long standing clients achieve their real estate goals in the upcoming years. I can whole heartedly say the highlight of my career has 1000% been the people I have met and the relationships made. I love what I do and especially being a small part of people's real estate journey. Here's to a wonderful 20 and twenty more.

You have obviously had a great (and rewarding) career so far! (but how can someone who only look like they are only in their 20s, be selling real estate for 20 years?)  :)
