This Week…Celebrating Kindness

Today, February 17 is Random Acts of Kindness Day.   Many say that we should celebrate this every single day and they’re absolutely right.

The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation was established in 1995 with the goal of making kindness the norm!

What gift can you give that costs you nothing…makes you and the recipient feel good…and no matter how many thoughtful acts you give away, you will always have more to share.

In our current environment, it is easy to become frustrated with every news story you hear or read. Many of us no longer listen to the news but you can’t avoid the stories.

What can we do? This sounds very much like Pollyanna however, I feel each of us has it in us to make small changes in others through our own behavior. (I’m a behaviorist).

What can we do?

~Reflect on a kind act we received and how much it meant to us

~Share a story of a kind and thoughtful act with others in person or on social media

~Make it a daily habit to think about what you can do for someone to make their life better or at the very least, brighten their day.

BTW- Kindness can be…

…A text or call to say “job well done.”

… Sitting with someone in the hospital or offering to watch a busy parent’s child.

…Saying “Good morning” to a stranger or buying the next person in line a cup of coffee.

…Checking in on a friend or neighbor who lives alone.

…Here at ActiveRain, it can be as easy as calling a new member to welcome them to the community

Please share an act of kindness you’ve witnessed or a thoughtful act you shared with someone.

This is the story of Conner Wright who during Covid started Conner’s Kindness Project as a way of giving back to the children in his community who were ill or in isolation.  His single act is a testament to how one person’s thoughtfulness can change the lives of many.

Too often we we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.

Hi Kathy,
You, my friend, are an Ambassador of Kindness!  We all should strive to do the same.

I have been shown tremendous kindness since arriving in Yuma. The Women Who Golf ladies have taken me in like the orphan I am and included me in their various events.

Good morning Kathy,

Carol Williams is right! You are an Ambassador of kindness and we should all try and do the same. It's always amazing how a smile can make a difference in your day! When you give you get so much more in return. Simple niceties can become second nature if you let them! One of the gals in my office left me a sweet Valentine day card with a sweet note and a little box of chocolates on my desk . Made my day!

Dorie Dillard Austin TX that was incredibly sweet of her!  I've found it's easier to be kind...less stress!  LOL   I'm sure that that gesture by the lady in your office was her way of saying "thank you" for all of the kinds things you do. BTW-saw Justin's mom and sis. Were your ears burning???

Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty so many reasons why....people see more mean acts when they watch the news...they see mean or wrong behavior being rewarded...they are lacking role models.   I could go on!!!

Kathy I find that the most effective and valued acts of kindness are the ones not planned and done on the spur of the moment.

I agree George Souto Larry offered a ride to a fellow walker recently. It had started to pour and he knew that he didn't park in the main lot. We'd seen him several times but this time we got to formally meet him and exchange names.

Kathy in a way I'm not surprised to see Kindness in your post today! You are one of the kindness ladies I know and I'm very appreciative of you❤️ Last evening as we were enjoying the fire and candlelight after dinner we were talking about kindness and how grateful we were for all the kind people in our lives. Not sure why we got on this subject but it was most delightful and here it is again today.   Ahhhhhh Kindness!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten thank you and that is so sweet. But you realize that kindness seeks out other kind people. That's why you and Gary have so many kind people around you.

Kathy Streib In today's world, when I watch the news, I wonder what is going on. A young man killed his X girlfriend and then tried to kill himself. A young man killed his father and videotaped it on YouTube. Why are people so judgmental and angry at everyone else?

Be kind to each other; someone may care for a sick parent or spouse at home. Posting here may be their delight.

It's frustrating, isn't it Hannah Williams And you are absolutely right. We don't know what someone is going through at this time. Offering kindness may be just what they need.

Great stories of inspiration. It takes nothing to smile, or say Good Morning, I am surprised at how many people don't. Whenever you smile you always get a smile back, however timid it may be.

Feb 17, 2024 12:15 PM
Kathy Streib

Well said Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 Wherever we walk, I've found one or two people who stare at the ground and never smile. I make it a point to say good morning to them. I don't want to be intrusive however, I usually get a return smile or good morning. Sometimes it takes days and sometimes it can take weeks or month.

Gestures, even small acts can make the biggest impact, Kathy. I remember walking down the street and seeing a young man crying. I approached him and asked if he was ok. He had just broken up with his girlfriend and was struggling. I said everything will be ok, then asked if he wanted a hug, he did and thanked me for reaching out to him.

I am not sure this will get me brownie points... I have an 85 year old friend.  As we left each other from breakfast this morning in Winter Park, he called me frantically to say he had a flat tire.  I turned around and changed the tire for him.
