Something to do on a Rainy Sunday

By
Real Estate Agent with TOUCHSTONE REAL ESTATE

Every once in a while, we have one of those dreary, rainy and yucky days but not to worry in a few days it will be back to our typical Florida weather.  It’s Sunday and they are calling for 97% of rain what can we do?  Sit in the house, nope, watch football, season is over, how about you explore a new place close by?  I got an idea “The Ancient Olive” in Lake Sumter.  From their website:

“Savor the culinary experience at The Ancient Olive Gourmet, where sophistication intertwines with premium extra virgin olive oils and aged balsamic vinegars. Picture a culinary adventure brimming with diverse specialty foods and unique gifts carefully selected by The Ancient Olive Gourmet.  Step into our inviting tasting room – a haven featuring over 65 premium single varietal and flavored extra virgin olive oils, perfectly complemented by exquisite balsamic vinegars. Revel in the accolades received for our unwavering commitment to quality and education, a true testament to our dedication to culinary excellence.  Immerse yourself in the passion we share for unrivaled food quality and taste. Explore our gourmet food shops, offering a curated selection of Spanish olives, French mustards, award-winning preserves, dry-cured sausages, nuts, hand-crafted pastas, and unique cocktail mixers.”

The Ancient Olive is located at 1111 Canal Street in the heart of Lake Sumter Landing and open Sunday from 10:00 until 5:00.

Good morning Dick. The Ancient Olive sounds like an interesting place to sample things not available in other places. Nice day to do it. Enjoy the treats.

The Ancient Olive brings me back years to some of the family markets that used to dot Waterbury. Just walking through the door and the aromas of the products offered delights.

Not from the 1920's although many of those stores may have been started then. Waterbury CT was a melting pot of nationalities, and each was within their own neighborhoods. Along South Main St in the day, one would pass a fish market, a butcher, an Italian deli with the barrels of olives, fresh fruits just like a scene out of the Godfather.  We lived in a tenement at the time and would be along there regularly. Even after moving out, mom would go back to shop.
