Thursday Food for Thought. . .

It was about fifteen years ago (before joining ActiveRain) when I became a Facebook member.  I wasn’t sure how I would fit in.  After all, telling tales and talking about myself was not exactly in my wheelhouse. I chose a different path.  Not by sharing my deepest thoughts or lots of photos but quotes from others.  Although I haven’t done so in a number of years, I am reminded of those days as FB memories show up daily on the site.

Here are some words of wisdom from February over the years.  The quotes made me think then and they still do, today.  While I'm no longer as active as before, looking back can offer some memorable feelings. Plus, FB continues to offer value as a birthday reminder when my memory bank defaults:

If I were two-faced, would I be wearing this one?

Attributed to Abraham Lincoln

Expect the best, prepare for the worst.

Capitalize on what comes.

Attributed to: Zig Ziglar

An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching.

Attributed to Mahatma Gandhi

A problem is a chance for you to do your best.

Attributed to Duke Ellington

I often quote myself. It adds spice to my conversation.

Attributed to George Bernard Shaw

I love the quotes, Michael.  I'm not as active on Facebook as some.  However, I do like when they send memories when they come up on anniversary dates.  And, FB makes for an easy way to let family and friends know what's going on in my life.

Myrl Jeffcoat - like so many things in life, there is good, not-so-good and plenty of that other stuff floating around.  I go pass, sometimes running, but am grateful for much too about what it offers.  Life - Real & Online.

Hello Michael Jacobs thank you for sharing these very good list of quotes. When I joined Facebook it was something different that communicate with people not in person.

Michael:

Love these quotes, a number of which are new to me which is always refreshing.

I am not particularly active on FB, and certainly less so than I used to be. I like the memories that pop up (sometimes) and the birthday reminders are a help.

Jeff

Jeff Dowler, CRS - like any activity, online or off, seems to experience a life cycle that mimics everything else around us.  A beginning, a middle and then - what's next.  Whether it's FB, AR or something entirely different --- change always plays a part.

I like your quote selections.

Personally, I have a much larger and more active following on Facebook than ActiveRain. I do check the birthdays on Facebook every day.

Roy Kelley - I have no doubts about that and your FB reach certainly extends beyond the boundaries of the AR community.   I think a post about your social media insights would be interesting since you are active on different sites and for a number of years.

Hi Michael, Quotes are very inspirational and useful too. Like you, I am not using FB for the same reasons as when I first started, but I still like to hear about what others are doing.

Jerry Newman - as a check in tool and birthday reminder, Facebook can be very good. In other ways, let's leave it at that.

Michael Jacobs - to this day, I still feel awkward about using FaceBook. I'm just not into it. I always questioned the "likes." And I wonder. Does anyone really have that many friends? Or people that really like them?

The quotes you shared are wonderful. I never heard the one by Abe Lincoln before but that was good! And Duke Ellington's resonated strongly with me, because it was one of my resolutions for 2024 - to keep problem solving.

Thank you for this post. No matter how much you post, you always say a lot in the most positive way.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP - the use of "friend" is something that continues to bother me.  With social media and in real life.  Believe me, there's much I choose to ignore when necessary for my own sanity.

I love all of the quotes, Michael Jacobs - especially the one by Duke Ellington. I often say that we are project managers, adept at solving all problems (or knowing who to pull in to do so) with Plans A through D on the ready!

Social media is so stressful to me. I'm busy with work and feel the need to keep up with everyone on all platforms. I just can't do it and I refuse to hire anyone to help me.

Funny about the FB being your first - then coming here...I remember the day we were all learning together how to set up our FB accounts and what to do/say on that platform. Then came business pages and how to title them, what to post there, vs our private accounts, etc. Then, rapidly following FB came the others and I feel like I'm still playing catch-up! Some days, I just ignore it for my own sanity!

Debe Maxwell, CRS - although my memory is not crystal clear on the subject, I recall many suggestions that a social media presence was going to change the way we live. I know that's true in some way but so totally off-base in sooooo many others.

The quote by George Bernard Shaw cracks me up, Michael! Facebook is used for sending out positive messages, a little business and to remain in touch with family & friends. Have zero time for any drama-rama goings on!

Memories  is my favorite part of facebook. Sometimes funny, sometimes bittersweet...I look forward to seeing what memories will be waiting for me each morning.

I often post things purely for the purpose of them popping up again at a later time.

Sharon Tara - I am not sure when the memories feature became a part of FB (maybe it was there from the beginning) but I enjoy that aspect of it.  They spark remembrances of what was going on around me at times.  You're right, there is a combination of happy as well as not-so-happy times that "pop up".
