Things to Do, 2024

“If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine; it’s lethal” – Paulo Coelho

I was born and raised in Stockton, CA., went to college at UCD, settled in South Sacramento, then moved to Elk Grove.  All were within 45 miles from Stockton.  Last year, that all changed.  Mary Margaret and I moved to PebbleCreek, a retirement community in Goodyear, AZ.  I had no plans to retire.  A funny thing happened, though.  I would wake up every day, thinking to myself, is this the day I should go to work or should I just have fun?  I have chosen fun every single day!  There is a good chance that I lost focus in 2023, so this month's Dream Board Challenge came at the perfect time for me.

Things to do in 2024

Rays 2024 Vision Board

You will notice that work DOES NOT play a prominent roll in 2024.  Mary Margaret seems to be fine with my decision to not work although I choose not to ask her that question out loud. 🤣  I have filled my board with much more that just pickleball.

At the top of my list is visiting with my extended family, including our cute little grand kids.  The one real challenge to our move has been being away from them.  We have to make a concerted effort to spend much more time with them this year.

I have always loved concerts and have been making a point to see some of my favorite groups, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, ELO, Big Bad Voodoo Daddies, Santana, The Doobie Brothers and, last year, Mana!  All fantastic and I would love to see each one again.  I would love to add Aerosmith and U2 to the list this year.

We have several small trips planned this year, but we plan to visit Thailand again next year.  I think we will add Cambodia and Vietnam to that trip, too.  We are very excited, especially about visiting the lost city of Angkor Wat

We have wanted to visit Sedona every since we have moved to Arizona.  It is so close to us and we have heard such great things about the area.  We just booked a place to stay in September!  Sheri Sperry - MCNE® has already mapped out some great hikes for Mary Margaret and I to try in here blog, Why is Soldier's Pass Trailhead in Sedona, so Popular?  We want to spend a lot more time hiking this year. Hiking in the Sedona area, though, will be the highlight of the year.

Of course, I will need to spend a lot more time in the kitchen this year.  I have a lot of cookbooks filled with great recipes to try.  So many recipes, so little time.  I will need to be careful, though.  I do not want to put on the 25 pounds that I just lost again!

There will be a lot of pickleball, too.  My Idaho partner, Erik, just met me for a tournament right here in PebbleCreek.  We came in second place and have plans for a few more tournaments this year.  How would you like to line up against Erik on the courts?  I bet Erik would keep our good friend, Brian England, off the courts for good.  (Note to Brian.  Erik was a die hard tennis player until he found pickleball!)

My Pickleball Partner, Erik

Finally, I would like to find many more beautiful sunsets this year.  I might be getting old, but beautiful sunsets never get old!

That is quite the vision board. Taking the time to pause and decide how to start work again seems to have worked perfectly and getting to see the world is never a bad thing. Hope it all plays out perfectly.

Thank you, Brian England.  I will be working for the next couple of weeks.  I am painting the exterior of my house.  It is a job, for sure.  I will be ready to start having fun again soon.  Ha!

On that note, would you be open to possibly painting my house if I paid you Ray Henson?  I am planning to paint it soon, but I don't have any good painters to call upon.

Good morning, Brian England.  I would be open to it, but I would want to see it first to see if a one man crew could handle it.  Give me a call!  Thank you!

Ray Henson - I just got back from Switzerland and Poland visiting my daughter!

In case you're interested, I read this great article (copied and pasted) and remembered you liked guitar music.

Finland is home to the annual Air Guitar World Championships.
There are many approaches to promoting world peace — giving Nobel Prizes, developing diplomatic agreements — but none is quite as awesome as playing air guitar. In fact, that’s why the Air Guitar World Championships were created: The organization’s official website proclaims that “wars will end, climate change will stop and all bad things will vanish when all the people in the world play the air guitar.”

In keeping with that (perhaps overly optimistic) outlook, each competition ends with every contestant playing the air guitar “all at once to save the world.” For close to 30 years, people have traveled from around the globe to Oulu, Finland, to participate, but not without first winning their respective national championships. As of 2024, there were 12 national championships, with participating nations including France, Thailand, Chile, Canada, and beyond. At the 2023 festivities on August 25, Nanami “Seven Seas” Nagura from Japan was crowned the overall champion. It was her third time taking home the trophy, making her the most successful competitor in the Air Guitar World Championships’ history.

Thank you, Patricia Feager, ABR,CRS,GRI,MRP.  We are doing well.  Mary Margaret just had a new knee put in about 3 days ago and is recovering.  She is moving slow and working through the pain, but she is a trooper and is keeping her spirits up.  She also has a very good nurse.  😃

I hope you are doing well, too! ! ! ! !

Ray Henson - I hope Mary Margaret heals well and quickly. We never really realize how much we depend on our feet, knees, thighs, and bones until something happens. A long time ago, a dear friend of the family told me, "always be glad when a doctor has the skills to operate and/or heal." The only time to worry, is when the doctor says, sorry, there's nothing I can do for you.

It's wonderful that you support each other and she has a good attitude! I love that you make a good nurse! She is very lucky to lean on you. And that you are there for her. Kudos to the happy couple, through sickness, and in health, in good times and bad,  may you and your family be blessed.

Thank you, Roy Kelley!  The summer is going well.  MM just had a knee replacement surgery done.  When she recovers, we have a couple of trips planned and, of course, I have been enjoying myself on the pickleball courts even in this hot part of the year.

I hope you  are doing well, too!

Good morning, Endre Barath, Jr. I think this might have been my first vision board.  I have been playing a lot of pickleball and we will be heading to Sedona in a couple of weeks, but MM had a new knee put in, so we did have to change our plans a bit this year.  We are looking forward to next year with trips planned to Thailand and Egypt.  I would also like to add Cambodia and Vietnam to the list.  We shall see.

I hope you are doing well and thank you for dropping by and leaving a comment.  I have been MIA so long that I was not sure if I would be remembered.  😉
