“If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine; it’s lethal” – Paulo Coelho
I was born and raised in Stockton, CA., went to college at UCD, settled in South Sacramento, then moved to Elk Grove. All were within 45 miles from Stockton. Last year, that all changed. Mary Margaret and I moved to PebbleCreek, a retirement community in Goodyear, AZ. I had no plans to retire. A funny thing happened, though. I would wake up every day, thinking to myself, is this the day I should go to work or should I just have fun? I have chosen fun every single day! There is a good chance that I lost focus in 2023, so this month's Dream Board Challenge came at the perfect time for me.
Things to do in 2024
You will notice that work DOES NOT play a prominent roll in 2024. Mary Margaret seems to be fine with my decision to not work although I choose not to ask her that question out loud. 🤣 I have filled my board with much more that just pickleball.
At the top of my list is visiting with my extended family, including our cute little grand kids. The one real challenge to our move has been being away from them. We have to make a concerted effort to spend much more time with them this year.
I have always loved concerts and have been making a point to see some of my favorite groups, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, ELO, Big Bad Voodoo Daddies, Santana, The Doobie Brothers and, last year, Mana! All fantastic and I would love to see each one again. I would love to add Aerosmith and U2 to the list this year.
We have several small trips planned this year, but we plan to visit Thailand again next year. I think we will add Cambodia and Vietnam to that trip, too. We are very excited, especially about visiting the lost city of Angkor Wat
We have wanted to visit Sedona every since we have moved to Arizona. It is so close to us and we have heard such great things about the area. We just booked a place to stay in September! Sheri Sperry - MCNE® has already mapped out some great hikes for Mary Margaret and I to try in here blog, Why is Soldier's Pass Trailhead in Sedona, so Popular? We want to spend a lot more time hiking this year. Hiking in the Sedona area, though, will be the highlight of the year.
Of course, I will need to spend a lot more time in the kitchen this year. I have a lot of cookbooks filled with great recipes to try. So many recipes, so little time. I will need to be careful, though. I do not want to put on the 25 pounds that I just lost again!
There will be a lot of pickleball, too. My Idaho partner, Erik, just met me for a tournament right here in PebbleCreek. We came in second place and have plans for a few more tournaments this year. How would you like to line up against Erik on the courts? I bet Erik would keep our good friend, Brian England, off the courts for good. (Note to Brian. Erik was a die hard tennis player until he found pickleball!)
Finally, I would like to find many more beautiful sunsets this year. I might be getting old, but beautiful sunsets never get old!

Thank you to Kathy Streib and Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - Wanda Can! for helping me get a little focus back in my life and get me back in the ActiveRain game!
