Motivational Monday…Start or Finish Line

A few weeks ago I had a conversation with a young friend. We were playing catch-up over the phone. She expressed regret about something she wished she had done.

Now she feared it was too late. It wasn’t a matter of life or death. But it was something she had intended to do after she’d graduated from college.

It was now twenty years later and this regret was hanging over her head. She kept saying I should have done this when I graduated.

After listening to her, I stopped her and asked her what was stopping her from doing it now.

The only thing she could say was that she should have done this twenty years earlier.

Drop the “should haves!”  Unless your reason is that you no longer want to or are not able to do what you want… “should haves” take you nowhere.

What is it you have wanted to do but feel like
it’s too late for you?

Still want to do it?    Drop the “Should have” and replace it with WILL!

You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.

C. S. Lewis

Good morning Kathy. C.S. Lewis nailed this one. Start today determined not to add to your "should have" list and perhaps with a little determination to take a few off the list. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin If we would replace "should" with "Will" it could change our lives.

Hi Michael Lamirande I can't imagine anyone who hasn't had that "should have" moment. It's human nature.

Good morning Kathy Streib, it is never too late to do anything in life. When I was in college, there was an 86-year-old gentleman in my Psychology class, graduating from college was his lifelong dream.

Beth Atalay I admire people who do that. I had a similar classmate in college. It was a school friends mother!!! And she was remarkable.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 that's wonderful!!!  You also did the Camino Del Sol and that was quite an achievement. Sometimes you have to just do it.

It was sunny for nearly 97% of my walk, but it is called the Camino de Santiago de Compostella, but I like Camino de Sol sounds wonderful. Annie gave me for Christmas a book with 500 walks from around the world, some sound very inviting.

Regrets are terrible. A well lived is one that has the person reflecting and not having any regrets, So what, at that point!

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 I agree...regrets are a horrible thing to have. If I had to give advice to anyone it would be to live your life with no regrets.

Kathy,

This is a great reminder that you are never too old to do something that you’ve always wanted to do. That C.S.Lewis Quote is spot on. Great post. Thank you.

Cases of the "shudda-wouldas" likely keep many great things from happening.  The past should not be prologue for today.

Kathy:

I think that was wise advice.

WE all have things we wanted to do but didn't for some reason but. But if it's important and weighing on you, why not do it!

C. S. Lewis was so right on target with his perspective and it's something worth remembering.

AHH... coulda woulda shoulda.  Yes, for many many things it's not too late!!  For many: no clear goals early in life.  After all, what little we knew?  Then we got busy with jobs and family and watched tv.  Every once in a while something would nag us to do or knock on the door pointing out obvious deficiencies, but our minds couldn't rationalize them or form a plan of action.  I listened to Zig Ziglar and realized there was a large motivational world out there but those who wrote the books about that, how to flip real estate, how to get rich quick... seemed to make their money writing 'How To's'.  Some wanted to be famous singers, writers, athletes, etc. but we really didn't push those opportunities.  This is a perfect subject for Michael Jacobs to ponder and we respectfully ask him for a full speculative lecture on this subject.  I would like to think positively but am getting dragged into the negative camp.  HELPPPP!!!!

AHA: I just read the first post and it started like mine!  Wow... you know what they say...😁

Best to be happy with what we have and hold onto the best things we have done and build on them!  And help others succeed.

It is never too late! I've read of people who started something new when in their 60s, 70s, and beyond, and were successful at it. If we want to do something, regardless of age, we should DO IT!
