Houston we have a problem.

I ran across this while playing on Facebook (the only thing that Facebook is really good for these days... 'playing'). An indie band in Kiev Ukraine, back in 2010 before Ukraine became a battlefield, found a vintage grand piano and decided to bring it back to life.

But not just to restore it normally, they added 20 different instruments to the body of this piano that are all playable none of which use electricity and all playable through the keyboard of the piano.  This genius piece of engineering allows the pianist to create a mini-orchestra sound that is truly unique.  And it doesn't hurt that the song is quite enjoyable.

I don't know what the current status of the members of this band is today.  I hope all is well, but I really don't know.

Good morning Alan. What creative fellows for sure. And, their music is enjoyable as a bonus. As for Facebook, it is my birthdays calendar and not much else. Enjoy your day.

Good morning Alan,

Leave it to you to uncover this very talented and creative group! I've never seen anyone take a vintage piano and transform it like this and not even using electricity!!

I thought so, too.  Very creative.

How original, what a great invention, both the instruments and the song. Thanks for sharing. I do hope that both these young gentlemen are safe and sound, but I am sure they are or have been defending their country.

I'm not as confident, in their safety, as you are but I hope they are.

That was quite impressive. I didn't see anything new on their youtube channel but check out what they did with cell phones. Smart people!

Alan May - Believe it or not I never heard of Okay Go - just looked at a few of their videos; fun stuff - as for the video of how that piano was made was so interesting. They even used lawn mower parts - thanks for sharing!

Wow!  That is nuts (in a very good way).  I'm loving this.  It's genius really. The first sight of the finger piano took me back to elementary school when we use to make them out of a piece of wood and hair pins, along with drums out of intertube and coffee cans.  Good share Alan May.

I've never heard it called a finger piano... I've always called them Kalimbas.  I thought it was pretty cool, too.

Alan- I am intrigued and amazed!!!  The creativity it took to even come up with the initial idea and then make it work is above my pay grade. I did well to play the piano in its basic "unenhanced" state!

... I was barely able to play the basic piano.

That is special. We saw something similar but not as diverse in a museum of mechanical toys in San Francisco.
