“There is No Such Thing As Too Much Truth”

"There is no such thing as too much truth"

Bob Woodward

Renowned journalist Bob Woodward once proclaimed, "There’s no such thing as too much truth."  His quote invites us to reconsider our relationship with truth.

Our continuing search for truth, takes us on a path that is not always straightforward.  We are currently living in a world that is inundated with misinformation and propaganda.  We keep hearing about fake news.  Who are we to trust?  Journalists should bear a solemn responsibility to uphold the highest standards of journalistic ethics and integrity.  It once was that way.  Now, we are constantly dealing with an onslaught of misinformation.

Truth is not a mere concept; it is the cornerstone upon which our understanding of the world is built.

Without truth, society turns into chaos, plagued by lies, deceit and uncertainty.

We must value truth above all else. We must value transparency.  We must value accountability and honesty in all aspects of our lives.

Finding the truth, regardless of how harsh it may be, empowers us to make informed decisions in all aspects of our lives. Be it science, medicine, politics, or personal relationships, we must pursue truth at all times, at all costs.

In a world that is filled with uncertainty, truth remains our most potent weapon against ignorance and injustice.

As we navigate the complexities of life, let us remember that

"there is no such thing as too much truth"

As citizens and consumers of information and products, we must question sources, and continually verify information ourselves.  We must uphold the principles of integrity, accuracy, and transparency, safeguarding our democracy.

Hello Joyce - an interesting word and one that has certainly changed in definition, concept and perception in my time on this planet.  And in so many ways I could never imagine.   While I won't be here to see it, I do wonder how history will reflect on these times as well as the subject you addressed in this post.

Michael Jacobs I've been considering history, and how the story of these years will be written. I think it will have far more to do with what political party is in power than in the truth of what's been happening.

Truth should always win out.  Total transparency and nothing less.  There are always 2 sides to every story - neither should be stifled or silenced.  Great post.

Hi Joyce,
In the context you are referring to, I totally agree. There are times when truth can hurt someone and serve no particular purpose. I don't believe in lying, so if you can't tell the truth (and the whole truth), it's best not to say anything.

If the media (including social media) would follow those simple guidelines, the world would be a far better place.

I think there could be some personal relationship exceptions that fall into the moral dilemma category, but that's getting off track from your point.

Carol Williams I agree. Some things are better left unsaid.

Hello Joyce and Bob Woodward was so right with his quote.  I hate to get into our government issues but we have lots of problems with some people.

Good afternoon Joyce,

Certainly agree with Bob Woodard but have to admit our world has unfortunately changed and way too many are not reading or comprehending this quote. If it doesn't serve their agenda they resort to miss truths. Sad but true.

Joyce, In a world where things can be confusing, truth is like our strongest weapon against being clueless and unfair. We must stick to being honest, getting things right, and being open about stuff, to keep things safe and fair.

It is far simpler to tell the truth that to start lying. The lies can get out of control and one has to be particularly sharp to remember what lies they tell whom.

Hi Joyce- it's sad that we can no longer assume that what we've read or were told is the truth. True journalists are hard to find...now we have newsreaders who are told what to say. What we want is the unvarnished, unslanted facts so that we can make an informed opinion or decision.

Loved your post and ironically if you call me about one of my vacant land listings I sound like I am trying to talk you out of buying it. In reality I want you to realize what you will be facing and I do not want to hear later that I did not tell you so, Endre

Joyce Marsh - the truth is something I guard and cherish. I agree with Bob Wood. There is too much propaganda and misinformation. Too many lies and one-sided stories. Sadly, it has become an epidemic. I detest gossip too. Sadly, it is easy to get entrapped by people who strongly believe what they hear or read about other people and use it to their advantage to spread more vicious lies.

Finding the truth from others, including the news reports, can be tricky and often takes a lot of digging. Too bad it's not more evident what is true or not!

Most self-proclaimed journalists are nothing but opinionists who are paid to push an agenda, Joyce. The truth becomes ever more elusive as it is stifled or pushed as lies by those who care only for their version to be front and center.

It's terrible!

Who would believe 30+years ago that almost all of our New Media Sources would actually Filter what gets presented to the citizens of the USA . Many refuse to Cover things that are happening all around us . When you talk to someone who watches the channels that deliberately cover up news , they think the things you are saying are crazy and you are a Conspiracy Theorist !

Once upon a time journalists reported what happened - not their opinion of how and why it happened - and what we should think, say, or do about it. I'd like them to follow the old saying on "Dragnet." "Just the facts."
