No, this book, Eat That Frog!, is not about recipes for frog legs, but rather a book authored by Brian Tracy who shares 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time. From my experience, many crazy busy sales folks and real estate agents including myself have at one time or another engaged in procrastination.
Tracy’s origins for the title for this book come from Mark Twain who said:
“If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And if it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.”
In the book’s introduction which is filled with considerable wisdom, Tracy expands upon Twain’s thought by sharing his two rules and explanations.
RULE #1: If you have to eat two frogs, eat the ugliest one first.
RULE #2: If you have to eat a live frog at all, it doesn’t pay to sit and look at it for very long.
Additionally, Tracy concludes this introduction with the Three D’s of New Habit Formation:
- Decision
- Discipline
- Determination
Chapter One begins with “Set the Table.” Here Tracy's identifies some basic behaviors including the use of paper. From the basics, Chapter Two looks to this way of “Plan Every Day in Advance.”
The ways to stop procrastination continue through another 19 chapters ending with “Single Handle Every Task.” Did I mention that each chapter or Way begins with a quote. The quote for the 21st way is by Napoleon Hill who stated:
“And herein lies the secret of true power. Learn, by constant practice, how to husband your resources, and concentrate then, at any given moment, upon a given point."
Eat That Frog is a good reminder of how to handle procrastination. And at sometime in our lives, we all may need such a reminder especially when we get crazy busy.
