Keeping your 6%

By

This is a fun way to get the point across and a good visual aide to those clients who would like you to cut your commission.  When I was new to the biz someone showed me a little trick to keep your 6%.  Take 6 one dollar bills (or business cards but it doesn't seem as effective), then show them where the commission goes.  Push three away from the pile for the other brokerage on the other side, push two away for your commission split.  This leaves you with 1 dollar.  With that one pick it up and rip it in half because we can forget Uncle Sam's cut.  you're left holding a half of a dollar.  Just make sure to tape it back together later because I'm pretty sure its illegal.

good luck!

What would really be great as if you borrowed the 6-bills from their pocket!  That sorta brings it "Home" dosen't it!

Nice idea, but you need to show them that the 6% is worth it in terms of time savings and increased revenue.

I agree with Jason. It's a cute idea but it's really not about you it's about them.

I agree with the latter two posts but the idea brings up an interesting point.  It's a peculiar industry when you have to validate how much money you are making....deal to deal.  Welcome to sales amigos!

Very interesting perspective and a cute idea. I'm not sure it would work with agents in my office (I'm the Manager) because we rarely have to negotiate our commission downward. In many cases we get more than the industry standard and I believe it is because the agents do a great job in building value before they even discuss pricing and commission. Just my 2 cents, but I think you are very creative and I can see where your point would be made with this visual.

That's a great visual! Thanks for sharing. When I find I need a tool, I will have my dollars and tape ready.
