How often do your change your picture?

By

I am not sure what to do anymore.

I had the same photo up for years and it is like branding yourself.

Than as years went by I really NEEDED a new picture so people would still recognize me. It took forever to change the picture on all the websites and. . .

Now that everything is finally changed I have a different haircut and different color and do not look like my picture at all anymore. Thinking about this I came up with the idea of posting different pictures on different sites.

What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea?

What will it do to my  "branding"?

Will it confuse people or will it stick out and therefore be remembered even more?

One picture on my business card another picture on my website and yet another picture on my blog?

Should these pictures be completely different, like hair up, hair down, yellow dress, red dress, green background, blue background? Or should I try to keep them as much alike as I can?

What are you doing with your pictures?

How old are they?

Do you use the same picture everywhere?

Was your picture taken by a professional photographer or is it just a "snap shot"

Would love to get your input

Go ahead and change your photo, and now that I said that I better go and change mine. Most of the public will never notice anyway.

Hi Anne,

I just updated my photo.  I went to a professional photographer and it really wasn't that expensive.  I think consistency is important, so I have replaced the old photo with the new one everywhere.  It really doesn't take that long to do.  Good Luck!  Have a nice week.  Michael A. Caruso

Regardless of whether the pictures are the same in all locations, it should look like you.

I agree with Michael that consistency is key. If you do decide on using different pictures, I would say to keep them as close to the same as possible, maybe just with a different background and lighting. As far as using a professional or a snapshot, I would say it depends where you're using it. On cards, go professional. On AR, however, I always appreciate seeing the real person in their photo. Good luck!

Yes, Erik I absolutely agree, it has to be ME on the photo, and that' why I might lean toward a real picture verses and photographer taking one

Consistency - yeah maybe you guys are right, use the same picture everywhere. Well, that's what I learned many many moons ago, I thought maybe it has changed?!

Your changing picture problem is just one more example of why we need to work away from putting our content on others' sites.  What other business gives direct competitors the inventory to compete with themselves?  What I mean is this: 1) putting your information on a site other than your own, gives them the content to compete with you for search engine traffic, and 2) it creates quite the time problem when you have to update something like your picture or a listing.  As a listing broker, I have one company site (capegroup.com).  I created a site 8 years ago (reindex.com) that links to other listing agent sites by the towns their listings are in - it links to their site and not their data so they only have to change their own site to be current.  If you aren't there yet, it is only because I have been too busy selling homes and I haven't had the time to find your site yet - so send it to me.  Happy selling and listing!

Would suggest going with the same photo for all things -- to help with branding -- there are sites that switch and use different ones and as a result it seems confusing that it is the same people -- our 2 cents.

I didn't realize it to start with, but my photo became like a "brand" for me (use it in all print ads, on internet sites, on cards, etc.), so was nervous about an "update".     Then someone told me I looked like a grade 4 math teacher, and I instantly went off for that "current" photo shoot.    You know the old math phobics nightmare -- two trains leave the station, one going....
