Friday Flags Outside Richmond VA

Our drive back to CT last weekend was uneventful which was most appreciated. I stopped outside Richmond as I didn't want a 14-hour drive. As we pulled into the hotel lot, the flutter of their flag was obvious.

Friday Flags Outside Richmond VAIt was also pretty clear that this flag has seen better days, which is something I mentioned to the registration assistant.

Whether they do anything about it will not be known by me. At the very least my last road flag was waving heavily as if to let me know it was a great vacation.

Good morning again, Ed. That's the first thing I noticed... the bad condition of the flag. But now you have an excuse to drive back down at some point and check it out.

This flag has seen better days, but it's still a beautiful sight. Hopefully they took care of it.

Good morning Ed. Our country is in trouble and getting worse. With that in mind, viewing the flag, even tattered, may remind some people of what a great country it can be! I like your Friday series as it reminds me of the need for change. Enjoy your day.

That flag is pretty tattered.  Wouldn't it be respectful to take it down at the end of every day or when it is windy so that it won't get tattered?  I have always thought that when I see someone with a flag on their truck, it's just blowing in the wind and getting tattered, doesn't seem very respectful to me, haha.

Yes it appears this flag has seen more wind than just your photo.  Still it waves.  Mark

Thanks, Ed, for sharing your travels and your photographs.

The next time you are in Richmond, be sure to visit the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. It is a great travel destination.

Good afternoon Ed,

Good for you for saying something as the flag definitely has reached the end of it's life. It still looks great waving proudly but they need to retire and and put up a new one!

It looks like the time has come to replace that flag. Flying a flag is great. Flying a ragged flag is not a good thing.

Yes, that flag has seen better days Ed, but at least it's still waving to all who pass by...

Michael Jacobs   When we are on the road, serenity and no flashing lights anywhere are what I want the most.

Nina Hollander, Broker    I don't know if I will pass that way again as the road changes depending on how we look to reach family on their turf. It could also pass by way of Charlotte if you know where that is.

Kat Palmiotti  It has weathered many a storm and deserves to be placed   into retirement now.

Wayne Martin   Considering it as near Richmond, it could be viewed as symbolic of the last time the nation was in upheaval with no common denominator.

Brian England   The proper way is down at night and raise in the morning but as it is there that should be sufficient, just recognize that it's served its purpose and needs to be replaced.

Bill Salvatore - East Valley   Thaks for taking the time to pause and comments.

Mark Don McInnes, Sandpoint-Idaho   Yes it waves and even stronger with the location and the wind.

Roy Kelley, thanks for stopping. These stops are merely a way point on the road to a destination.

George Souto   I did see the sign on the highway and now have 2 reasons to remember the name, aside from the Civil War battlefield.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX   My plea may have fallen on deaf ears as people don't seem to take the type of pride in their jobs that was so common not that long ago.

Kathy Streib   It's easier when we travel as there is little time pressure so a few minutes only means a few extra minutes.  I could have taken a Stars and Bars photo in NC but didn't want to open that door.

John Juarez   I agree but with so few that fly anything at all it is still better than nothing.

Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400   That it is, which is a good thing.

Old Glory is in a sad state of affairs.  That hotel isn't doing itself any favors by not replacing it.
