Two Essentials for Success in Real Estate.

Good grooming, a MUST for Salespersons.

It seems silly to have to say it BUT anyone in sales or service should be well groomed and know basic manors. I am at a loss to recollect the last time I met a poorly groomed Realtor in my MLS. Sure, some could use a tip or two on color coordination in regards to their wardrobe but I've never met one with horrible breath or a shirt saturated in body order.

As far as manors... I'd go so far as to say about 75% of the Real Estate Professionals I know could use the advice of Miss Manors (Judith Martin).

Her material is dated but I see many have picked up her cause on social media. She once said: "You can deny all you want that there is etiquette, and a lot of people do in everyday life. But if you behave in a way that offends the people you're trying to deal with, they will stop dealing with you..."

If your attitude is "I don't need to read about etiquette" chances are YOU DO!

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .For Timmothy's website type timmtimmothy.com into your browser. I tried to put it in a link here but it refuses to work. Do NOT put anything in front of timmtimmothy.com or it will not work.

Hello Bob, I always say you need to dress for success.  Some people I see in jeans and t shirts and wonder why they do not do much business.

It's amazing to me that they just don't get it Will Hamm . Jeans and T-shirts are fine for the unemployed which is where most Realtors who dress that way will end up.

Wow is right Michael Elliott . Hopefully they were representing a very close friend or a relative BUT even at that they (friend or relative) are owed more respect than that (I felt that true even if the property is a mobile home).

HI Bob... sadly, I've seen a ton of bad dressers in this business. I remember one closing where the buyer's agent showed up in what looked like swim shorts, flip flops, and a t-shirt.

Wow Nina Hollander, Broker . When she was not selling Real Estate did she stand on the corner with her motor running? 😄 I do remember posting once about an agent here who's short dress was so tight she could not show the upstairs of a home to one of my friends.

Bob "RealMan" Timm hi Bob... this was a male agent, not a female. But I've seen female agents show up in outfits that looked like pajama onesies.

Nina Hollander, Broker I failed to clarify that the reason she could not show the upstairs was that her dress was so tight she could not do stairs.

Your example reminds me of an agent here who is 70's cool... Dude.

Yeppir lmao.  Those of us who deny the strongest, on any issue, probably the biggest offender.  Make it a great day.  m

Hi Bob - when we first moved to FL many many years ago, we walked into a new home sales office and I couldn't believe it...the sales consultant looked like a hooker going to a cocktail party.

There certainly seems to be less emphasis on respecting others in general these days, that is what I see as the biggest issue, everyone seems to only be concerned about themselves, haha.

I have definitely seen that look on occasion here as well Kathy Streib . It's to bad that their morals are that low and even worse that it works on some clients.

I get that there are different standards where ever you go but I am willing to bet that you would have been just as successful in your career had you continued with the suits and ties because you are just plain AWESOME Endre Barath, Jr. BTW I am talking about good grooming (body odor, bad breath, unkempt hair, and so on.

Well Bob we'll have to disagree on this one!  Here in PHX (out west) it is more relaxed and I'm fine with that! Boots and jeans is quite normal around here.  In fact, if a guy is wearing a suit, it means he's an attorney heading to court - joking here!!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten several others also misread my remarks as I do not say anything about dressing up or even attire here. I am talking about good grooming (body odor, bad breath, unkempt hair, and so on.
