I usually answer this question by suggesting the following:  Ask everyone (family, friends, clients, associates) about Real Estate in Mexico.  Here is what you will find.

1. They have at one time or another have been interested in purchasing property in Mexico.

2. They know someone who owns property there.

3. They think only Mexican citizens can own property.

4. They think land can only be leased.

5. They think the Mexican government can confiscate your property at anytime.

From this point you should notice two things.  One, people need to be educated on this topic.  Two, by helping them...there should be an opportunity to increase your income.

I have lived in Mexico for a small period of time and can see why so many North Americans are beginning ot buy real estate and sell real estate like crazy. The cost of living is right and the people and lifestyle is amazing, with all that and the beautiful weather, and buying is only getting easier even in small towns like I have been looking into, like Barra De Navidad real estate for instance. The housing looks beautiful and the price is right, especially in a booming market, now is the time to get in on it.

I run a cross border mexico mortgage business which provides mortgages for Americans and Canadians purchasing property in Mexico. And I agree that one of the biggest misconceptions, still to this day, is that you can't own property. It is interesting as you have some of the wealthiest and most successful business people in the U.S. buying $5 million properties down there but people still think it is not safe. Blame the media i guess. I have written countless articles on this subject. Overall, education on this needs to continue and Mexico will continue to flourish as the number one retirement destination. Patrick, Costalegre looks amazing.  To tell you the truth, I have very little information on your area.  Please tell us a little more about it.  Specifically, where the majority of your buyers come from and how they got to you.  A lot of us Realtors in the USA are eager to work with Mexico but run into many obstacles. 

As an agent down there, working in Paradise, educate us on what would help both of us increase our business.

Matthew, Education is everything, you are correct.  Another problem I see is that agents in America are told to inform a client of a property/development and just refer them.  What we are doing differently, is performing actual representations in transactions.  These days buyers don't want to be just referred away, they want someone taking the time to help them through the whole process. 

We have arrived to this point through much effort.  Many agents are looking for that secret key to make Mexico work for them.  We found it is actually many keys working simultaneously!  Once it does, though, it feels good to see the joy in our client's face!

Sarah, The pleasure is ours.  Have you ever looked into the Real Estate Market down there while you are relaxing?

I would highly recommend you connect with some of the local agents, introduce yourself and see what happens.

A broker in my office has a few condos in Puerto Vallarta, his first since 1998.  He hates to mix business with pleasure and will not work down there unless he buys or sells his own properties.  He is such a great guy and he is at the beach almost on a daily basis living it up! 

Not me, I love to look for opportunites when I have a chance.  How about you?
