Wordless Wednesday…Starting Small

Larry was surveying the yard in his never-ending battle with weeds and came across this.

The rootball made a clunky sound when he tossed it into his bucket. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was the beginning of a majestic oak tree. If left to grow, and given the right conditions, it might take from 3 to 5 years to grow into a sapling tree.

Amazon began in the garage of its founder, Jeff Bezos. I don’t have to tell you how big (huge) Amazon is, do I? Mr. Bezos’ motto was “Get big fast” and while it may have taken six years to become profitable (2003), no one could say that Amazon isn’t BIG.

What does this have to

 do with us?

Whatever we hope to achieve, in our personal lives or at work…it all begins with one small step.

Mighty oaks from little acorns grow.

Love the photo oi Larry holding the beginnings of a majestic oak tree! Your message came across loud and clear ..if we want to achieve something start somewhere, anywhere with one small step and keep moving in that direction!

Bill Salvatore - East Valley that sounds ideal. I'll bet it was a big change from walking there in the winter. You must miss some of that in AZ.

I always love your Wordless Wednesdays Kathy. We love those Oak trees here in the City of Oaks. Unfortunately, it seems they're making way for more and more development. Recently, residents of Apex NC fought and won the fight to save an old Oak tree. Save the Oak Tree - Apex NC

Kathy, We've cultivated trees from our red maple, which sheds tiny seeds. Over the years, they've evolved into magnificent specimens.

I listened to a speech not long ago from Jeff Bezos. He was talking about the lifecycle of a company like Amazon. He said it will (like a mighty oak) one day die. Maybe from natural causes, maybe from environmental issues...maybe even from self inflicted wounds.

It's all about taking that first step!  I remember someone telling my older sister-in-law that she just needed to take the first step (towards starting a new business). If that was sharpening a pencil - than get it done. Seemed too simple to me way back then, but there was probably more truth to it than I realized.

Kathy a mustard seed is also a great example.  It is a tiny seed, and it produces a large plant.

Kathy, I fondly recall a comment from a colleague in Nashville, "the thing that stops most people is the start". So yes, one small step.... I trust that Larry replanted the oak tree sapling!!

I love that it shows an acorn in his palm in one of the pictures and the videos for my projects use the analogy of an acorn growing into a mighty oak tree.

Great reminder that small grows into large and the ability to see that opportunity separates those with vision and those who lack vision.
