Pooh Pondering
Remembering Blustery Days
Although I wouldn’t describe our relationship as close, I knew of the adventures of Winnie the Pooh as a child. My younger sister had a book, maybe more than one, but beyond the basic storyline, I wasn’t that aware of much else. Literature can be quite special as it draws in its readers. I understand that.
In between respites of rain so far this year, we have had a few days of windy, maybe even blustery by some accounts, conditions in Southern California. And when blustery is part of the conversation, Pooh and the author A. A. Milne come to mind for me. These words of wisdom, each attributed to Milne strike a pondering chord for me. Here are some as I reflect on a less windy day.
The third-rate mind is only happy
when it is thinking with the majority.
The second-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking with the minority.
The first-rate mind is only happy when it is thinking.
Organizing is what you do before you do something
so that when you do it,
it's not all mixed up.
One of the advantages of being disorderly
is that one is constantly
making exciting discoveries.
It is more fun to talk with someone
who doesn’t use long, difficult words,
like “What about lunch?”.
Bores can be divided into two classes,
those who have their own particular subject,
and those who do not need a subject.
Admittedly, my favorite. And the quote that I started my rabbit hole expedition of A. A. Milne words and a bit more about his history:
Did you ever stop to think, and forget to start again?
Happy Spring!
