Care tasks. Not chores. Not jobs. Not responsibilities. Not obligations. Care tasks. This is how KC Davis, a licensed professional counselor, in her meditative, tranquil, tender affirmation of and plea for self-care (and family-care by extension) How to Keep House While Drowning, reframes our day-to-day efforts. The activities which sustain us such as laundry, dishes, cooking, cleaning, brushing our teeth, activities which are sometimes excruciatingly overwhelming for anyone. Take away the miserable, punitive moralizing around perfection, around all or nothing, around defective, destructive, antediluvian expectations. Just do what you can when you can. But there's much more to her concept. Please read it.
Many of my clients recommend this book. It is pearlescent.
