We can all lose ourselves in Facebook, but sometimes it is a place to discover a new bakery. I recently came across the BlackLab Bakery page, isn't that a great name, you want to go just because of the name. I haven't found a really good baker in our area yet.
Yes, in West Grove there is a Mexican Bakery which is great for Mexican pastries. But really good baguettes and Miche loaves. No. Well, looking over BlackLab Bakery's Facebook page I noticed their photos and they looked really good.
They are generally only open Friday and Saturday, and this weekend, I decided to go and give them a try. Well, the line was almost out the door when I arrived,, and it did trickle out behind me.

They had all sorts of loaves, tomato pies, cannoli which they fill as you purchase them, bagels, plain and sesame seed, baguettes, plain and epi, which are like mini rolls all attached to each other, they were sold out, because it was Easter, Easter loaves and cookies.
We were going to my son who lives local, so I bought an Easter loaf for them, made with raisins and with a strong flavor of aniseed, it was delicious. I also bought a semolina loaf and a baguette, the latter which I think was made with a sourdough base. The car on the way home smelt heavenly.
Not the cheapest bread, but definitely I will return for special occasions. I also want to try those tomato pies as people were buying them as if they were going out of fashion. They make them plain and spicy.
It is fun discovering new places, the bakery was originally in Wilmington, DE and moved here last April, so coming up on their one year anniversary. It is owned by an Italian couple, Barry and Sandy Ciarrocchi who are very friendly. Kids get a cookie when they visit.
BlackLab Bakery is located at 1470 Baltimore Pike in Toughkenamon, there is additional parking behind the bakery and be prepared to be patient while you wait. It seems there is often a line. I shared this with people in our new development, and several mentioned they had seen it but never stopped.
Where will I discover next. Who knows but I do know it will be fun.
