The NCAA Men's Tournament is Down to its Last Game

The practices started back in late August of 2023 and for many the games were for records in very early November.

Back and forth the 2 teams that meet on Monday night jockeyed nationally while taking care of their business within their conferences. The rankings meant little except for the prestige it carried, and maybe to move an eye of a potential recruit to wonder what it would be like to wear that uniform.

It's almost all over now, and on Monday April 8 at 9:20 EST, it's tip off to see who remains the last team with a win.

UConn Huskies vs Purdue Boiler Makers

Both are #1 seeds, with UConn be recognized as the first #1.  Purdue has never played for a National Championship, while UConn is playing for their 6th, and also playing for back-to-back Championships.

In its history, there have only been 7 teams that have accomplished that feat.

  • Oklahoma A&M (1945 & 1946)
  • Kentucky (1948 & 1949)
  • San Francisco (1955 & 1956)
  • Cincinnati (1961 & 1962)
  • UCLA (1964 & 1965, 1967-1973)
  • Duke (1991 & 1992)
  • Florida (2006 & 2007)

There's a lot of motivation on both sides of the ball and if ever there were eyes on the game, those that may be the most scrutinized may well be the officials. No one wants to see a game decided by a ref's whistle.

I will have the game on and also need tranquilizers and a lot of action with the remote to get through the game. I hope my heart survives the test as well as the UConn men.

Go UConn!!!!

Thanks for sharing Ed, I am excited to see Perdue go for their first championship or UCon become a rare back to back champion.

Good morning Ed. My son was at the University of Florida for their first championship in 2006 when he graduated. No skin on the game for this Cham[ionship but looking forward to a good game. Enjoy the game.

Wayne Martin   The college games are always best to watch as they are playing for the love of the game and for the potential exposure.  Once out of college the wallet gets too heavy for them to move quickly.

Either way, I am hoping for a well-played game and wish Purdue well as consolation.

Years ago I dated someone who was an avid basketball fan - he wouldn't go out or get together if there was a game on. That's the closest I've been to getting interested in basketball! (A little exaggerated but not too much!)

Bill Salvatore - East Valley   We're not looking for sun alignment so much as star's alignment to give the preferred team the victory. Those stars have to be from the East Coast.

Kat Palmiotti   The season is short, and the relationship has far better opportunities to flourish, especially if one cares for that team.

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 my 54 year-old diploma is hanging on my wall. But I have been deeply unhappy with The George Washington University for years now and might just try to "lose" it.

Hi Ed, We were rooting for NCSU and sad to see they're out but we're happy they made it as far as they did.

Ed this will be the first game the two big men will face each other.  How they respond is going to play a big part in the outcome.

George Souto t was a win/win on several fronts, not the least of which was the classlessness of Edey and the way UConn dominated.

Hi Ed- I was hoping it would boil down to Purdue and UConn (as long as KU and UH were out)  Our neighbor is for Purdue, but I'll admit I'm for the Huskies.

UConn - The University of Connecticut - prevailed once again.

March Madness achieved a whole new level this year with the Women's Championship outdrawing the Men's in fan interest.

Apr 09, 2024 08:57 AM
Ed Silva, 203-206-0754

John Juarez   There is strong sentiment that the UConn women's team was cheated of its place in the Championship as the NCAA wanted to give their leading scorer for Iowa a chance at redemption against SC.

The Men's team carried the target of #1 strong all year and showed through the tournament that they truly were champions.
