An Eclipse of a Lifetime

By

Right here in Granbury, Texas, we were in the path of totality with the solar eclipse. Our little town experienced a boom of extra people as many came to witness this event. It truly was a once-in-a-lifetime event.

We were prepared with our eclipse glasses, our Spotify playlist of "eclipse" music and we enjoyed the event in our own backyard. With so many people on the roads, we opted to stay home.  We even kept our 6th-grade son home so we could experience this as a family.

The event did not disappoint! Our total darkness happened around 1:40 p.m. As the full eclipse came upon us, it became completely still outside. No birds chirping, no wind, and the temperature dropped. As we sat in the darkness in the middle of the day, we all were awestruck by the event.

I am thankful that we were able to be in the path as it was a wonderful experience. If you ever have the opportunity to see this happen, make plans to go as you will not be disappointed.

Paula- you all were so lucky!!! Houston was overcast so we couldn’t see a thing. It did get darker but wasn’t sure if it was the eclipse or rain

Oh, Kathy Streib - I am so sad you didn't get to see it. Truly a remarkable event. I need to give you a call soon. Have missed being here on AR.

I am glad you were able to witness the eclipse. The view was rather disappointing here in Maryland with a lot of cloud cover but we did manage to see part of it.

Paula, as you said the chance of a lifetime.  I'm not likely to travel the world chasing them, and with another 20+ years before the next one remotely close to where I'll likely be living (and factor in I'd 80+ by then), driving a short distance yesterday to get into the path of totality was well worth it.  I'll add my eclipse glasses to my memento cork board that is to the left of my working desk so I have a reminder of fun things I've done over the years :)

What a wonderful family experience.  A good reason to keep a child at home as well. That was a lesson one cannot get in school.

We were close to the path up here in CT, but cloud cover spoiled our show.

It was special!  We had lots of clouds so we didn't get the full effect.

I did not bother trying to see it myself, since I knew plenty of people would post amazing pictures and videos of it.  I love that photo of you and your family checking it out with your glasses on!

It truly was an amazing eclipse. We only had 34% totality here in Sacramento.  Afterward, I was kicking myself that I didn't travel where there was more totality.  I have family in Dallas.  I could have easily hopped a plan and traveled there.

Paula, I'll just have to wait for the next one! Oh, right - I'll be really old by then! It must have been amazing to watch this in your own back yard!

Hi Paula,
What a great event to experience as a family. There was no noticeable effect way up here in Washington State, but I've seen some amazing pictures.

How wonderful that you were able to enjoy this as a family from home. I believe the 2044 one is going to include my area so if I'm still around, I might have a chance to do the same thing!
