People Buy From People They Know and Trust Not Technology

Maybe it’s just me, but so many within the real estate industry are promoting the newest technology that being AI and saying AI is the future.  Hmm I heard the same things about many products such as toys to even cleaning products in the past and I will not go into all the predictions (failed) about the climate.

One of most frequent complaints I have received when showing homes listed by other real estate agents is the photographs. Here are some of the comments I have received:

  • “Gee this looks nothing like the photos.”
  • “Wow the rooms are much smaller than the photos indicated.”
  • “Why didn’t they take a photo of this other bathroom (fill in the blank)?”
  • “Hmm none of the closets have doors.”
  • “The shed looks like its falling down and yet no photos but listed in the MLS.”
  • “That’s a fence?”
  • “Another home with more misleading photos.”
  • “Does anyone take honest photographs?”

Regardless, if the photographs were taken by a professional photographer or by the real estate agent, often these photographs turn off potential buyers and begin to grow the seeds of distrust for ALL real estate agents. Many of these comments were made earlier on in during my real estate tenure. I made a business decision to take my own photographs and have yet to receive any negative comments about my photos.

Then there are those folks advocating why need a real estate agent because buyers can shop for a home on the Internet and then buy a home from the Internet?  Really, does the Internet know everything for every unique geographic area? Such advocacy, I believe will have serious consequences.  Of course, the get out of jail card for these sites will be these two words “due diligence.”

However, many folks don’t know what they don’t know.

My sense is the difference between people and technology such as AI or Internet websites is this one word “Soul.”  Technology, especially AI does not have a Soul. AI may mimic a Soul, but AI does not have that entity.

When people buy from people they know and trust, these buyers and sellers are connecting with the real estate agents “Soul.” That invisible entity, call it a Soul, a spirit or kind-hearted, is what makes us truly human.

I personally like to take my own photos, some hire professionals. I just had a comment on one of my listings. The home looks nicer in person than the online photos. The pictures came out pretty good, but it was nice to hear a nice comment. 

I have seen some professional photos and as we enter the home, it does not look as nice as the photo.

Do continue to take your own pictures, I personally enjoy it.

I have also received similar comments about the photos I have taken in that they are good, but being physically in the house or on the vacant land is much better. I also enjoy taking the photos that way I can share additional information about the property.

Hi Leanne... as with many things in life, technology has its place in our profession. But it isn't, shouldn't be, and can't be the end-all and be-all. Real estate is still a belly to belly business.
