AI banned on Activerain ?

Managing Real Estate Broker with ERA American Real Estate

I wrote a lengthy post recently about the Ban on Tik Tok, I wanted to provide sourced material with links for those interested to further study the topic.

Recently in the past year with my research of AI and taking certifications via IBM and others I started looking into neural networks combined with the human brain via chips Neuralink and others with what's called neuromorphic computing which if you go back to that post you will see the theme with the AI generated art that I created and used on the post.

I covered a wide range of the harms Tiktok is doing to children (not that its good for adults either) there was a ActiveRain member that couldn't follow along with the post. There is a phrase TLDR that I first seen in 2021 Discord when reviewing NFT projects that I might of been interested in, it means too long didnt read TLDR. The comment also mention it's as though the post was written by artificial intelligence. I havent used anything in my post that is AI other than for my creations of artwork via AI generative art.

I think there will be an appreciation for human made content in the future as most of the internet will turn into AI generated written content. You will notice errors in grammar here and there in my post as well as run on sentences, lack of capitalization, lack of punctuation, incorrect spacing, tendency to repeat myself. I am self aware of how I craft my post. I believe there will be a more widely used tool in the future like the auto check (which is a form of AI) that underlines your post in red when writing a post or email, they are already working on that for AI with watermarks to help teachers grading papers for example and I think the plugin will be in most browser to say this is AI.

I am not sure when the topic might be approached here on ActiveRain but I imagine at some point it will be. I created the AI group here on AR I started a new group all are welcome https://activerai (activerain.com) so I figured I would get the discussion started.

There are a growing number of syndication platforms that create content to post on your social media profiles for you. Its not hard to imagine that some members will try to use AR as a platform to integrate any traffic they can back to their socials via blog post with a saturation of post.

There are concerns beyond spam with deepfakes and AI generated voice

I imagine at some point there will be rules in place here on AR like there are currently  Community Guidelines (activerain.com) which I am sure other knows exactly who decides who decides on these topics that are covered.

There are a few things I think could fall into line with the community guidelines it says you cant just copy members only post, you cant just copy copyright material that says its copyright protected. You cant just plagiarize.

There is already a long list of established what is banned for not getting you points in the AR system. There are examples of what you cant get points for

"(jokes, recipes, inspirational quotes, poems, re published marketing materials, newsletters, press releases, articles etc.) information from government websites, bible verses, large copied sections of the MLS, or post that only contain links and keywords, but offfer no value to consumers."

I am imagining that the section above might be a good place for AI content, I would like to see some thought given to this section as the etc can be vague and need further definition when looking at AI, I will say just because its not a wide spread problem today doesnt mean it wont be in the future.

I searched for AI banned on AR and didnt find any results, I did see a few of my post on AI so I figured this is a good topic.

My recommendations would be have a thoughtful discussion on the topic of fair use  Fair use 2 (activerain.com) I would say new works of art like the prompted art I created for the cover image on this post using copilot should be accepted.

If your wondering what it means Microsoft Bing Chat (Sydney), Does ChatGPT have Memories? DAN Prompt, BASE64 & AI Sentience? | E02 (youtube.com)

If making up rules to govern AI use I would like to see a review of this post as well as the one below, to help with thoughts on the topic of what is and is not allowed.

Brandon Jordan I have not heard of any effort to band AI from ActiveRain, but it is unlikely a post will be featured if it is obvious the AI was used to generate it.

George Souto thanks for checking out the post and comment, I was wanting to start the conversation if this is considered in the future with putting limits on AI here on AR, better to get out ahead of things would be my observation rather than reacting to it after the fact. I can understand some might limit the front page feature with AI post thats fine if discussed and understood by all. I have never had any of my 3,000 post on the front page so not a worry for me in regards  to my posts.  If we get to be overrun with AI post would be a consideration to address this ahead of time and hopefully not full out ban all aspects including partial AI or AI art.

For starters, you might want to change the title.  It's a declarative statement leading anyone that doesn't click through and read that AR has ALREADY banned AI, vs, "I imagine that at some point...."
Changing to "Will ActiveRain ban AI?" would be a more appropriate title.

@membersupport Thank you for checking out the post and comment. Who runs the AR member support these days I know of the page   Real Estate Blog Community for Professionals - ActiveRain just wondering which members run it as it doesnt really say,  is it a volunteer position?  I have added a question mark to the title of this post, I understand my post doesn't violate any terms of the community guidelines and didn't need anything added but I think it still allows free speech and clarification of your point is taken.

Good afternoon Brandon,

I think AR member support has a good suggestion in changing your title. I also think it would create more conversation. I'm going to check into the AL group your formed here in the rain.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX thank you for checking out the post and comment, so I have added a ? so that people understand what the post will be about and not that it is a new community guideline, the intent of the post was to start the conversation which it looks like it has done.

Hi Brandon- I will echo what was said above. It's just a suggestion but did get our attention. And maybe that's what your goal was. I agree with a lot of what you said. I dabble using AT for art but that's it. I'd rather try to take my own.

In hunting for posts to highlight in my weekly post, I am getting tired of taking the time to see if a post is AI generate.

Kathy Streib I know you spend time on your blog with the theme per day and week. I think it's better to have a conversation before its a major problem vs after the fact and reacting to it, you are correct the intent was to get a conversation going on how to handle this as there is an exponential curve happening in tech right now the AI models are being trained on all of the information on the internet and they have already reached that with some mutli modals with all of recorded voice, video, text of the entire internet with some of these. I think you have a good point about the time spent already with checking if its AI or not. I have updated the post to add the reflective ?

Thank you Brandon Jordan When I first read it, i didn't know what to think. You make an excellent point about AI.

As far as I know there is no rule that says AI is not allowed on ActiveRain. BUT... this site is meant to encourage people to write their own material, thus enabling them to better communicate with potential clients and peers. The posts that are written on Saturdays and Sundays to share member posts definitely do not want to share AI written posts, so I guess that's a not-specifically identified rule. But this entire site is about being true to ourselves and writing accordingly.

And to answer your question above, no one is paid to "manage" AR member services. Everyone who spends time here helping, guiding, posting, etc., does it for free.

I am glad that Kathy Streib featured your article - You almost lost me with TLDR - it sent me down a rabbit hole of wondering what that meant even though you told us immediately afterwards.  I think we have a lot to grapple with in using and adapting to AI - partly just being able to recognize it

Lise Howe thank you for checking out the post and comment, I am glad you stuck it out to read through. I agree there are lots of changes coming with AI. I am hopeful that AR will adapt and prepare to use the newest tools to ID what is AI and find its right fit here with a good discussion on a place for useful AI art images and more to integrate with the human created content.
