Things to Do After Buy a House

After you have closed and moved your private property to your new home there are plenty of things to do. Following are a few things you need to be aware of to establish yourself in the neighborhood:

Next door neighbors - You need to meet your neighbors and say hello.  Neighbors are a source of local knowledge.  These people will be aware of the problems and quirks that exist in the area and be able to share common information about the neighborhood.  In addition, if you have children, it’s a wonderful way to get to know families that have similar age children and what activities are available in the area. Finally, your neighbors can be a major source of recommendations such as who to contact when in need of a plumber, electrician, or roofer.

Local regulations – Before you make exterior updates to your property need to be aware of local regulations.  This includes building or complex, city, county, and homeowners’ association rules.  If you ignore these regulations, you risk the possibility of stop-work orders, fines, or force to redo the improvements. Other regulations may include times you put out garbage, when and where you park your vehicle, etc.

Buying necessities – If you have been living in an apartment and then buy a home, you will need to buy necessities to maintain and upgrade your property.  These include buying ladder, lawn mower and shovel, etc.

Your abilities – Need to be realistic about your abilities to take on do-it-yourself (DIY) projects. Many times, homeowners want to save money by doing the project themselves.  If you’re a first-time home buyer, better to take on a small project first.  It is also important to have the proper tools when doing a DIY project.   Remember if you are not successful with a DIY project it will make the problem even worse and cost you more money.

Professional help – All homeowners will experience problems with their property.  Some problems can be repaired by themselves, other problems the homeowner will need a professional to do the needed repairs or upgrades. Therefore, the homeowner should accumulate a list of professionals prior to needing a professional. This can be done by asking your friends, neighbors, or other professionals in different fields of work.

Maintenance and repairs – Home buyers should plan before and after they buy a house to budget for maintenance and repairs on their home.  Things happen such as HVAC or roof needs repairs or replaced.  These things happen even though you received an excellent inspection report. Even if you have purchased new construction, you may have minimal issues for a few years, but eventually things will bust.
