Ask An Ambassador: I Don't Have Time For This!

Time keeps on slipping into the future, and if you want to fly like an eagle, you've got to know some tricks of the trade.

If I've heard it once, I've heard it a 1000 times, I don't have time to blog.  I'm not in your shoes, so I don't know how accurate that statement is, or if it's more a matter of not knowing how to be efficient with your blogging time so blogging doesn't become a burden.

The reality is a blog post can be a fairly short amount of time once you've refined your blogging chops.

Do you have a picture of your own to use that you can easily find?  Check.

No picture?  Off to Pixabay.com, put in keyword, search, review, pick, download.  Shouldn't take much longer than a couple of minutes.

Idea for a blog post?  What's trending in the trade?  Did another agent write a post that sparked an idea?  Client asked a question that would make a great FAQ post?  Write another post in a series of home searches (homes with pools, with basements, with 3 car garages, etc.)

Having a template saves time.  Standard market reports, subdivision summaries, new construction communities, home searches are just a few topics that could be standardized.

Strapped for time?  Write a post that is no research or doesn't need much time to develop.  I had another idea for today, but Life happens, a 30 minute showing went over an hour, offer to write, etc., so picking a post topic that would take 30 minutes to develop is a no go.

Really strapped for time?  Update an older post (e.g. annual local event posts can be quickly updated and you can move on with your day).

Go a bit shorter.  When 300 words are effective, kick the 1000 word post into a big hole in the ground.

Practice makes perfect.  The more you blog, the easier it gets.

12 minutes start to finish, idea, picture, content, posted.

Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help,

Good afternoon Bill,

It really is that easy and you have shown how to make a post happen! Practice does make perfect so it only stands to reason the more you blog, the easier it gets.

Once I knew what to do and how to do it, getting a post a day done was a routine that was (relatively) easy to sustain.

Hello Bill (and Liz too) - some choose to blog and find it a good use of their time.  Others do the same, but don't find that it meshes with their idea of marketing.  You're right, it's difficult to fit into another's shoes.  Maybe, hurtful too.   👠👡👢

I can't wear those pointy toed shoes!  I've got flat feet :)

Yes indeed and the more blogs one writes, the easier it is to do so! I can't wear pointy toed shoes either. For what it's worth!

Some comfortable tennis shoes and I'm a happy camper.  My favorite loafer company went out of business, and I've not found a suitable replacement yet.

You hit the nail on the head with this one Bill. It's true- we all make the time to do what we want to do. It's a personal choice. I have my little routine set that works for me (since I'm retired) but even when I worked, I threw in local posts with a staging post or two mixed in with re-working older posts.

During my long daily streak, there were times with juggling of topics to match what I had time for that day, or maybe just a matter of matching the mood with the topic, but there was ALWAYS something that I could do if I chose.

Bill:

It's a personal choice about how we spend our time and blogging can fit into that busy schedule if we are committed and look for ways to maximize our efficiency. There are some great tips here to help do just that.

I definitely had a chance to refine how to be efficient over the years.  Even with a deep dive type community or market report, I figured out how to pull data quickly so I could populate my templates.

To start...I LOVE Steve Miller Band. Next...One thing I do not have time for is listening to excuses from agents who tell me they have no time (usually at Starbucks as they are chatting.

We've all got the things we do for fun (I've got a few online word games that are part of my day), but other things that could interfere with what I need to do take a back seat.  I love watching Capitals hockey games, but it's on my phone streaming while I make the cat/dog dinner, or do something else on my computer.  It doesn't rate as a "sit in front of TV and do nothing else" activity.

And take the time to build some posts that last forever or until you retire and take them down.  That gives a lot of return on the effort.

Bill, you're right about developing your blogging chops to write more efficiently. Do you know how many posts I've done on stink houses, or being intimidate by Fang when I open a house door to the snapping of doggy jaws? There' a lot of material out there.

I rarely found an absence of topics, so much as an absence of topics I WANTED to blog about in a particular day.  Some topics depend a certain balance of mood that I might not be up for on a particular day, so off to Plan B or C to find a topic that worked.
