The Beauty of Empty Space

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Golden Girls with SW Desert Homes BR564219000

My attention was snagged by the notion of blank space today as I contemplated an early morning blog.

My inbox shared thoughts by speaker Seth Godin, "Blank pages beg to be filled, and it helps to have them around."

I thought of the Chinese and Japanese art of space and found these thoughts,
"Zen artists in particular appreciated the dynamic vitality created by empty areas. They saw in them a signifier of the Buddhist notion of emptiness as the ultimate reality. In this context emptiness doesn’t signify lack or something negative. Instead, it can be understood as an energetic field of infinite potentiality. "
and, "White spaces can be profoundly beautiful; full of mystery and promise, a reminder of the infinite potential that dwells within nature--and each of us. " Victoria Scarlett

Jan Risher shared, "The quietest moments my home knows are the minutes between when a party is supposed to start and the first guest’s arrival. They are empty moments full of anticipation."

My own calendar beckons today with a totally clear day - the agenda is blank.

What possibilities lie ahead of me today?

What will the absence of "busy"  bring with its possibilities?

Wishing you your own empty moments as you explore the day that is today.

I hope your day is filled with meaningful moments.

My day began with my regular dental appointment for x-rays and cleaning. The good news was that all was well.

Good morning Cara,

I always like what Seth Godin has to say! We do need a blank pallet to be able to fill it with things that are important to us! Life balance is extremely important to me!

Love this Cara- I particularly related to what Jan Risher said. I have that feeling when I'm expecting all of the family over for one of our big gatherings. Everything has been done, the table is ready and I have quiet time to sit and relax.

I think I'm always rushing pretty much "up to"...I should shoot for relaxation time!  Thanks for reading Kathy Streib

Cara, Blank spaces invite imagination, like when we're showing buyers an empty house. They can envision their own furnishings and decor within the home. It' a blank canvas waiting for them to paint their dream home!

I agree, Lawrence "Larry" & Sheila Agranoff. Cell: 631-805-4400 but sometimes, we get those clients that can't "see" the big picture.  I find this happens often when an owner has a grand piano in a "formal dining room" space or a pool table in a "Living room".  I also get a big kick out of descriptions from agents calling a dirt back yard a "blank canvas"!

I like the idea of blank space you brought to us. Likewise I like silence too. Both can be very relaxing. Neither implies nothingness, but both allow the mind to rest and be quiet.

Hi Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543. There's a lot of stuff out there on the subject -- must be something to it!

Cara:

You've given us a lot to ponder! There can be something very refreshing about blank  space on your calendar...will something unexpected happen to fill the void or will you create that something rather than simply wait and see what takes place?

Jeff

Hi Jeff Dowler, CRS.  Funny, when you mention the word "ponder" I can't help but think of Michael Jacobs. What a brand he's got, eh?  That's a great question you ask!

I have an amazing agent who is going out of town to visit her sons who live in New York.  A quick trip of only 5 days.

As we were meeting today...she mentioned that she thought she had everything taken care of but some things have cropped up and may impact her while on her trip.

She asked me if I would be available if needed in an emergency showing, etc.

She works in my hometown office 62 miles from my home.

I smiled and showed her my calendar on my phone...and said "enjoy your trip...text or call if needed."

My calendar is entirely blanked out in blue until Sunday PM...all it says is: Brenda gone to NY.  No other meetings scheduled.

I told her...I will have time if needed...my schedule is blank on purpose!

Great seeing your blog Cara Marcelle Mancuso

That is awesome that Brenda can rely on you.  Our small firm is similar in that we have 7 of us that can have each others' backs if need be.  I love empty calendar days - just so there isn't toooooo many in a row Mike McCann Nebraska Land Broker
