The Front Door Steals the Show...

One of the fastest ways to sell your home, is to make sure your

"Front Door Steals The Show"

Joyce Marsh Interior Designer and Luxury Real Estate Specialist recommends that before you put up a For Sale Sign, there are steps you should take to make sure that your home has that special ingredient known as  "curb appeal".

Most home buyers will do a "drive-by" before they actualy schedule a showing.  This means that they are taking a looksy at your home and if it doesn't look good, the interest stops right there.

You only have one chance to make a great impression, and when you have your home on the market, this is even more true.

  • Take a walk around your neighborhood to see how your home looks from "the street view".  Take a look at your home from all different angles.
  • Photograph your home and print the photos.  It will be easier to see the problem areas.
  • Highlight the items that need attention and should be taken care of prior to listing your home.

Make an impact with your Front Door...

There is one change that can make a huge difference and has immediate impact and that is by painting the front door of your home.  Have you ever noticed that you are drawn to homes with beautiful front doors, or doors with a "stand-out" color? Consider painting a striking color such as the doors in the photo above.

Then take it a step further and enhance the landscaping around the front entry and coordinate all of the colors with some fresh flower plantings.

All of these ideas will make your home stand out and be the star of the neighborhood.

This is very good advice to share. I think we will get some new front door hardware when we offer our home for sale. I posted your blog on X.

Hi Joyce Marsh

We painted our front door black when we prepped out last home for sale. Definitely helped with the curb appeal. Did you use an AI tool to generate that image in your post?

Good afternoon Joyce,

I've always felt the front door is more than just the opening to your home. When it makes a statement you catch the eye of not only buyers (if you are selling) but your friends, neigbors and family! An exicitng front door enhanced by landscaping definitely makes your home stand out!

Hi Joyce... an interesting front door always adds curb appeal. And your advice to sellers to walk their neighborhood and to look at their front door and yard is exactly what I tell mine to do. So many people drive right into their garages and never really look at the front of their homes.

My Daughter bought a new home and decided to paint the old front door. She first stripped off 3 layers of paint and then had to sand the door to get back to wood ..

Curb appeal is important as it tells a story of the house and the maintenance that it has experienced.

Excellent idea for home sellers - a freshly and colorfully painted door can make a huge difference!

My Mom would love that door since her favorite color is blue!  In fact, her house is mainly painted blue, haha.

Joyce, that front door does pop with its color, but the curb appeal must be there also.
