Today, I read an article telling buyers that they should fire their Real Estate agent if they own a computer. Usually, when I read something like this, my blood pressure would increase. I would get upset and feel like I had to call someone and vent. Instead, I laughed. I thought about all the for-sale owners there were and how many ended up listing their homes with an agent.  Statistics show that 97% of for-sale by owners list their house with an agent. There was a time when I did very well working primarily with for sale by owners.   

They did not feel they needed to pay an agent to help them sell a house. Surprise, surprise, it was not as easy as they thought. Especially as time went by they had many lookers but not any buyers under contract. 



Therefore I will sit back and not stress about our profession. We work hard for our money. We answer our phones all hours of the day and night. We understand how stressful everyone is and weather the storms and keep everyone calm.

Because it is one of the largest investments most people make in their lifetime and they are worried and scared. We know that, and we are there to let them know everything is going to be alright. Making sure everything is perfect because that is what we do. That is my job, and I take it very seriously. I want everything to be perfect. When you sit down at closing waiting for your new house keys or to give your buyer the old keys,  you can have a SIGH of Relief that everything is fine. 

This way, you too will laugh when you read the article I read that if you own a computer, you can fire your Real Estate Agent as you are intelligent enough to know buying and selling a house is more than just looking for a house. There is much more involved in the transaction than choosing one. You must be able to get to the closing table and complete the transaction.

Ed Silva, 203-206-0754 It will also get the best deal for the buyer when we act as a buyer's agent.  We work hard for our money. What other professional answers their phone for their clients at 8 pm when they are upset or even at 10 Pm if necessary .

There will always be those that feel they don't need an agent. The same ones that insist they know how to lay wood floors, botch it and have to call in a professional! They know everything and going it alone always costs them time and money.

Hello Hannah - can people buy/sell real estate without an agent?  An ability to do all sorts of things can be a possibility but as Dorie Dillard Austin TX points out in her comment, each of us has likely seen many mishaps over the years.  It seems like a DYI approach is soooo simple until you start to successfully finish it.

Exactly, Michael Jacobs. I worry about the news I read and hear. Why would a professional write an article advising people to take such risks with one of the most important and costly investments they make in their lifetime? It is almost like telling someone to go to court without an attorney. Sometimes, it works out, but most of the time, it does not.

After hearing some of the comments on television, it isn't easy to know what to believe. It's disappointing to read articles like this, but fortunately, our clients are well-informed and understand that there is more to any situation than what can be gleaned from a computer screen alone.

Had to laugh at your post, reminded me of years ago one of my neighbors gave me a phone number to call, less than a week later I got the listing.... then I sold it quickly... she figured what an easy business... she got her Real Estate license, paid the dues, the mls etc. and the list goes on a year later no business generated... and she had a hard time renewing all the costs and ultimately quit the profession... because it is such an easy business all you need is a computer and a phone:)))Endre

I laugh as well because the for sale by owner people think they are saving a bunch of money but the reality is that they are leaving way too much money on the table, so the joke is on them, haha.

A number of years ago, we had a major scam where "buyers" came in and bought homes from FSBOs in our area.  Then those "buyers" would turn around and sue the sellers for failing to disclose certain things.  It is always best for sellers to be represented.
