Why is Tonight Different Than All Other Nights

Tonight is the first night of Passover and Jewish people all over the World will be sitting down with their families and close friends and having a Seder dinner.

What is a Seder, you may ask? It is a meal symbolizing freedom from slavery and bondage from Egypt, and each food has its own meaning. It is a tradition celebrated. The Jewish people left Egypt in haste with no time to make bread; therefore, this is why Matzo is unleavened bread. It is the Story of Exodus and there is a plate on the table that each food/herb has a meaning.

You will find the story in the Bible. This is a very condensed version of what a Seder dinner is.    

This year with all the turmoil in the Mideast let us hope and pray it will be Peaceful

Thank you for your post and a very good description of Seder dinner and what it means, symbolizes and who attends. This year I do feel will have a very special meaning especially with what is going on around the world and in our own country, especially on our campus this very day..very disturbing.

Wishing all people continued blessings and that the hate will dissipate, Hannah! Am glad that the violent protests are coming to a halt on university campuses. They are supposed to provide a safe environment for all people who attend, not just those who support an agenda.

Hi Hannah... sorry I missed this when you first published it. I have been fortunate to attend a number of Seders at the homes of Jewish friends. Sadly, I don't have much hope that turmoil in the Middle East will end soon. People are just too entrenched in their positions and have been for a long time.
