Proposal for A.I. community guidelines

Managing Real Estate Broker with ERA American Real Estate

The last post I wrote was AI banned on Activerain ? I dont like to be someone that just presents problems without a possible solution. That in mind here are my thoughts on how to address A.I. being incorporated into ActiveRain Community Guidelines.

1. Members of ActiveRain may use A.I. art if they are the creators of the art (you prompted the A.I. model for the creation) If  you remixed someone's created work through the model you will need to have had their permission for the use of their A.I. created work regardless of if at this time A.I. can be copyrighted and comply with already established community guidelines on acceptable materials and copyright protected materials apply to A.I. if uploading a copyrighted picture in a model and only putting a slight filter on it that's not a new creation the supreme court has ruled.  21-869_87ad.pdf (supremecourt.gov)

2. Members aren't allowed to use the images of another member or their avatar in A.I. creations, that being stills or motion video, members may also not use the voice of another member unless approval is received from the member. No deepfakes.

3. Members are to have created at least 80% of the content of their post by a human, prompting is not considered creation, unless members are prompting with back propagation and advanced user levels with creations of negative prompting members must note credit to the portion used from A.I. that was created in order to use up to 20% of the post as A.I. as it can be argued that is at that point artisan by a human. If using any portion of A.I. members are to fact check what they are posting, there are currently no perfect A.I. models and they all have hallucinations that will provide incorrect data from time to time, it's always a good practice to fact check all data being provided in the Rain.

I understand this will be a growing topic of content use, web scraping has been ruled legal for example link is below and there will be many discussions going on in the field as A.I. has used all data existing on the internet in some models already.

I wanted to present a possible solution on an approach as I have spent more time than the average member of AR working with A.I. models and creations I would bet.

Members have spent years creating quality post to connect with peers and customers and spent time brainstorming and refining their post to build this network. A.I. has the potential if not addressed in rules to dilute the works of members. Hopefully this will be a help to those considering how to handle future updates to community guidelines on this topic.

Brand0n- I'm still wrapping my head around AI...not so much the AI-generated art or photo but posts.  I would like it noted in the post if any or all of the post has been AI generated or AI assisted.

Thank you for checking out the post and comment Kathy Streib sounds like your in favor of at least #3  "must note credit to the portion used from A.I."

Excellent suggestions, Brandon. I think your #3 is especially appropriate. I believe all the controversies over AI will not go away any time soon.

I think your right Nina Hollander, Broker there are more advancements all the time with new tools to use in A.I. theres enough invested in the space by investors so we know its only going to expand.

AI generated information and copy/paste of posts shared by multiple members are already dilutive to the quality of AR material. I am not a fan of regulations in general but wouldn't be opposed to some AI-usage rules. That being said, who would police/identify posts that break the rules/enforce consequences? I'm think the answer to that question (no one) would take these kinds of changes out of the equation.

Kat Palmiotti this is a proposal to start the conversation as I haven't seen anything posted on this topic in regards to refresh on community guidelines to address. That might of been the way the original community guidelines were created so maybe this is already being worked on behind the scenes.

There are data scientist working on watermarks you can see an example on the A.I. picture on my post about Meta.AI being released this week Meta.AI released this week (activerain.com)

Activerain has used A.I. to track new members joining who are likely bots as has been mentioned in the community lately, so I would think they will be up to date on tools rolling out to address policing.

[2307.07411] Detecting LLM-Generated Text in Computing Education: A Comparative Study for ChatGPT Cases (arxiv.org)  this is just one example of the problem being worked on from a paper last year that turned into the tool copyleaks. There are many tools but likely they need to improve a bit before being used but by the time the rules are written here in AR they might be ready for use. Thats just one example  there are many more.

The question of enforce consequences for rule breaking, right now community guidelines just say post are taken down for current violations and then it doesnt really say how or when its determined to go to this point  "If we decide to terminate your account as a result of a violation of these Community Guidelines, you will be prohibited from ever signing up for another account!"

Good morning Brandon. Excellent post for additional pondering on my part. I am a challenged techie and retired so while I ponder I will avoid involvement with AI. Enjoy your day.

Hi Brandon,
There has been quite a bit of discussion about Community Guidelines and AI. Personally, I try not to Feature posts in my Second Chance Saturday that I feel were clearly or mostly AI-Generated. There's nothing particularly illegal about it, but it isn't authentic and, as Kat Palmiotti said, has diluted the quality of AR content.  Verifying whether content is original or AI-generated isn't always easy.

Ultimately, the decision is up to AR owner Ben Kinney.  Monitoring it is another issue completely.

Thanks for checking out the post and comment Carol Williams I would be interested to take a look feel free to tag me on the post on the topic of community guidelines and A.I.  I tried to search for it on AR but didnt find anything before my post on the topic. I just responded to Kats comment above hope that helps you as well. The 80% was a starting point that seem fair that if you count a portion as the image A.I. that a person created being a percent of the 20% could work as well to help not further dilute seemed a good starting point for discussion.

I don't have much experience or knowledge of the topic. Although my Wordless Wednesday posts are "photo editing" and photo manipulation is something I'm known for, I don't knowingly use AI photos for my creations. Honestly, I don't even know where to find them. LOL

I recently posted a pic that I'm pretty sure the main photo I started with was AI generated, but I got the pic from a photo sharing source with permission to use it.

Thank you Sharon Tara for checking out the post and comment.

You wont have to look for them they will be in everything if you have the latest microsoft browser you already have it on your computer go to co pilot and tell it what picture you want to see.

I have talked about various topics if you woul like to learn more I just had a post this week Meta.AI has released their A.I. art and text version so now its in whatsapp, instagram and stand alone website.

Good morning Brandon,

I'm so glad that Kathy Streib featured your post in her Sunday series as I missed it! I've heard quite a bit of discussion about Community Guidelines and AI, and am sure we will continue to hear more. I agree with you A.I. has the potential, if not addressed in rules to dilute the works of members.

Thank you for checking out the post and comment Dorie Dillard Austin TX I am hopefully AR will get some guidelines in place and roll out tools for detection of A.I. text, they have did well with cutting down on fake accounts and bot spammers in the comments.

Brandon Jordan  , I do not use AI except to correct my spelling, but I do see a lot of copy-and-paste posts. It may be, as you are saying, AI posts that I am not aware of. I started to read them and know this is not  original content and I stop and go on to the next post

So glad Kathy Streib as I missed this

Kat Palmiotti thanks for sharing the community guidelines I already talk about them in this post and the one thats linked to in this post AI banned on Activerain ?  I was looking for posts on the topic of AI in regards to community guidelines and would be interested in any that were out there. "You agree not to impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with another person or entity" interested in your thoughts of expansion of this terms of service to be incorporated into community guidelines with AI. There is also new technology section interested your take on A.I. forms what are called agents. should Realtors that create these post have the right to use their own data in a chatbot model to answer questions if they chose to? Say I wanted to use my 3,000 post to use in part of a model I build for myself for my personal website. Reid Hoffman meets his AI twin - Full (youtube.com)

AI has no soul. With that said, I believe some people who use AI under false pretenses also lack ethics and possibly even a soul.  So many folks are promoting AI just to make money and that is indeed sad. I agree with number 3 and yet monitoring that suggestion will probably be too much and too costly.

Thank you for checking out the post and comment Leanne Smith growing up people said the computer was the devil so I have heard that sentiment before the A.I. panic seems to be starting there are viral videos of people destroying automated machines i.e. cars etc. The criminal activity is going to happy with any new technology fake websites, text, email unfortunately it does hamper innovation the people that like those people the least amount that abuse the system are the people trying to use A.I. for advancements I believe.

am glad that Kathy Streibfeatured this. You make great points  About the use of AI  it would be nice to know that a human wrote the posts we are reading here rather than a machine

Apr 29, 2024 04:17 AM
Brandon Jordan

Thank you for checking out the post and comment Lise Howe I know of new tools to combat A.I. use where it shouldnt be used but we all have to agree on the terms first of if a post can be fully A.I. or if theres value in the human writing here. I think most agree that the human hand should touch at least most of the post. I am glad it was highlighted hopefully it starts this conversation.
