You NEED to Hire a Detective

By

In the case of who chewed up the table cloth, Joe doesn't need a detective BUT if you are a home Buyer you DO need to hire a detective. Even if the home Sellers are sweet looking old Grandparent types you want to hire a Home Inspector before buying a home.

Check out this 18 second video

If you are a regular on Active Rain you will see even crazier stuff than this. Let me just say that Home Inspectors are worth their weight in gold when you need a home detective.

In most of my transactions, a chewed up table cloth would have been a pleasant distraction.

That is a fact Michael Elliott . A table cloth can be thrown away but messed up wiring and plumbing is a whole different story.

Oh yes, indeed. Many years ago our daughter purchased a home in Iowa without inspecting it despite my advice she do so. Reasons? (1) her mother-in-law said she didn't need one. Say what! Her MIL was a Realtor, herself. (2) the home was being sold by a minister and she was convinced her wouldn't lie. Two floods in her basement later that cost a bomb to fix and I think she got it.

I wonder if the mother-in-law apologized Nina Hollander, Broker and was her son upset with her?

Bob "RealMan" Timm oh gosh, no. And when they bought their next house the same exact advice happened and they paid dearly for years to come because they did not have an inspection.

Nina Hollander, Broker , my Love, I doubt I could have stayed totally silent on the subject but I think I could restrain my self enough to not say anything in front of the son-in-law.

Bob "RealMan" Timm I learned a long time ago just to keep my mouth shut... I offer nothing unless asked.

Bob "RealMan" Timm they've purchased two houses, since. I have no idea what they did or didn't do. Decided it wasn't my problem and if they have issues later as I tell my husband "I don't reward stupid" and they better figure it out on their own at their own expense.

I get the being silent as you want to stay family Nina Hollander, Broker . You would think those incidences would have been great teachers but all of us can be thick on certain subjects.

Bob "RealMan" Timm it's not so much an issue of staying family. It's more that with adult children, you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. Let them make their own mistakes.

Good morning Bob. For your protection get a home inspection was always my mantra when active. Once sold a multi-million new construction home by a highly reputable builder. The inspector found that no wiring was placed for the dishwasher. So much for trust! Inspect! Enjoy your day.

Thanks Wayne Martin . Even the best make errors from time to time. Even though I represented the builders I encouraged Buyers to have the home inspected. It protected both parties as far as I'm concerned.

Kat Palmiotti as far as the video you have to wonder what the back story was... DIY, drunk, Friday at 4:59...?

Good morning Bob,

It is so important to hire an inspector when purchasing a home. We see so many crazy things and once again a homeowner who thinks they can do the work of an electrician. Always hire a professional!

Dorie Dillard Austin TX even though I am an avid DIY'er there are things I won't touch like wiring and gas line plumbing.

I wonder if the licensing of Home Inspectors is a State thing Will Hamm as I always thought they were here in ND (but I could be wrong).
