Could You Afford Your Own Home in Today's Market?

Imagine you want to buy the same house you live in now, right in your own neighborhood. Sounds good, right? But here's the thing: could you pay for it in today's market? Well, 59% of them, especially those from the Baby Boomer generation, say they couldn't.

Now, let's talk about these folks who are saying no. They've been living in their homes for about 10 years. That's a pretty long time! This isn't just about what's happening right now with the pandemic. It's also about other things like not having a job and the cost of borrowing money, which is called interest rates.

So, here's a big question for you: if you bought a house today, do you think you could still pay for it 10 years from now? It's something important to think about in today's housing market.

Yes I could afford to buy now and in 10 years...the question is whether I would want to.  Todays interest seems high but no where near as high as our first couple of homes...but their prices were about 1/4 of what our home costs today...and todays value is double what we paid to have it built 20 years ago.  Thanks you for your blog!

As Mike McCann Nebraska Land Broker said... yes, I could afford my home, which has almost doubled in value, but the question is whether I'd want to.

No way could I buy my house now! It would cost more than 10 times what I paid for it back in the day. I'd have to settle for a neat little condo.
