Balsamic Fig Reduction: one of my favorite meal enhancers...

Real Estate Agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties 01238708

Balsamic Fig Reduction: one of my favorite meal enhancers... I remember many years ago when I bought a Balsamic Vinegar with Fig infused and I paid top dollar for it.

After I tasted it, I decided that was the last time and I will make my own. Needless to say you do not need to pay top dollar and can make your own.

Every year I would take some fresh figs and then do my own reduction and infusing it with the fresh figs.

This year there were hardly any fresh figs on the market, so I bought some dried figs. So, with that said here is my recipe for the Balsamic Fig Reduction:

1. Quarter the figs about a handful plus

2. Add two bottles of Balsamic Vinegar from Modena

3. Boil it for about 20 minutes or so

4. Then reduce the heat and continue for another 15 minutes. Basically, convert and reduce the two bottles of Balsamic Vinegar to about one bottle.

5. Strain and cool for 20 minutes and you are done.

What to use it for? I love to use it on top of Salmon when I bake it just as an example.

On a side note, I save the rest of the figs and keep them in the fridge to add to my salmon when I bake it.

Hope you like this simple recipe to get expensive balsamic fig reduction for a bargain.

Endre, Larry bought a fig tree last summer and now it looks like there are some plants forming. Let's see if we can get a few figs from it this year!

I have two fig trees which produced just a few very small figs last year. I see there are some new figs forming so we'll see if we get enough to make something!

Good morning chef Endre,

Wow what a delightful combination figs and Salmon! I have to admit I would not have the time to make the fig reduction so would opt pay to pay more for it!

Great idea, I love creating our own things to use. We plan on making our own Limoncello this year, and maybe an Orangecello too. We use a reduced balsamic vinegar, but never infused with figs, but Annie is always mixing different things, so she may add some fig preserves and then use the balsamic vinegar reduction.

Hi Endre- I think I am the only one I know who is not fond of balsamic vinegar.  However, were you to make it, I know that I'd love it.
