Life continues to provide unexpected relationships. Last week I stopped by my favorite local restaurant, Red Cellar & Bistro to deliver a birthday present to a young friend who is the cook at this establishment. She had admired my purse so I bought one for her forthcoming birthday.
Then I stayed for an adult beverage as I knew another couple also enjoying this small business. As we were talking, another couple came in and a conversation started.
A comment by this new couple was that the three of us at the bar knew each other. We all smiled and conversation flowed now between the five of us.
I learned this couple was visiting from Arkansas. During the conversation, we learned:
- Both the wives of the two couples and myself were born near or in Chicago, IL.
- The husbands had connections to CA.
As the conversation continued, questions by this second couple about the area were asked since this couple was considering relocating to Kingman, AZ. The couple shared some of their experiences including ministry work and were wondering about the churches in the area.
I shared the different religious affiliations and churches. In this sharing, I learned the husband had been ordained a Lutheran minister.
Conversation then turned to particular residential areas that had larger lots with elbow room. I suggested two particular areas, Valle Vista in Kingman, AZ and Walnut Creek, Golden Valley AZ, that might be of interest given what was being exchanged.
The wife asked me if I was a local real estate agent and I responded yes. Please note I never said I was a real estate agent because I believe in having buyers (potential clients) pull me to them instead of me pushing me onto them. The wife asked for my business card which I gladly provided.
Last night I received a call from the wife who shared she and her husband are seriously considering relocating to Kingman, AZ and was wondering about my schedule. The wife also asked about a printed map and I said I would send one in the mail the next day.
When I was a Director for the KGVAR Board (our local real estate association), I had printed maps made of the area. Yes many individuals still want printed maps.
This morning I addressed the envelope with the printed map and will mail it today at the Post Office. I have blocked off an appointment time in which to sit down and discuss this couple’s relocation plans.
Yes, relationships happen quite unexpectedly. My sense is this experience only reaffirms President Teddy Roosevelt's words of wisdom:
No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.
