Friday Fun…In or Out???

While wandering around cyberville I ran across this article…6 Kitchen Trends Going Away in 2024.  Hmmm

The 6 are…

-White kitchens

-The farmhouse aesthetic

-Matte black hardware

-Combined stove and oven ranges

-Visible appliances

-High contrast graphic tile

-The open kitchen (they’re on the fence about this one)

Keeping up with the latest trends has never been high on my list. However, if you are considering remodeling or updating, these may be of interest to you.

Me?

-I like white kitchens if they have interesting details and pops of color.

-Never was into the farmhouse look

-Ambivalent about the matte black hardware, combo stove and oven, and visible appliances

-Not a personal fan of graphic tile

-I LOVE open kitchens

For some Friday Fun…what are your thoughts?  In or Out?

Hi Kathy.... I was just about to message you... hopefully, you are okay. The weather news from Houston this morning was just terrible.

As for the kitchen trends... I always have a white kitchen or as light as makes no difference. As far as I'm concerned, white is always in style.

I never experienced an open kitchen till I moved to Charlotte 26 years ago. I'm used to it now, but still don't love it. I love a separate kitchen room with a kitchen table.

All the other trends you mentioned... nothing I was a fan of ever to begin with.

This makes me chuckle a little bit since I just renovated my own kitchen and went more with the trends since I don't necessarily have a style I prefer.  From your list, most of my kitchen will go out of style since it is white, has a farmhouse-style sink, and combined oven/stovetop.  I still very much enjoy the look of my kitchen and will for perhaps the rest of my life, haha.

I have a white kitchen, which was much easier to chose than the granite.   I like it :-)

Hello Kathy - such articles can certainly be conversation starters.  While down a recent rabbit hole visit, I read discussions of trendy, on trend along with trending.  Preferences?  My mind can and does change based on a number of factors including that room of the house.

Now off on a different track:  your post title mentioning in or out, I initially wondered if you were going to explore navel gazing.  Hmm. . .  🐇🍴🐰

Good morning Kathy,

Love the controversary over what's in and out for kitchen. I love the lighter, open airy feeling. I've never been into the farmhouse feel. Not a fan of graphic tile and I love open kitchens. When my family gets together there is plenty of room for everyone as we all pitch in and help with a meal! Lots of laughing, joking...Mom (me) is not the one doing everything off in a separate kitchen and not part of the fun!

I like white kitchens although to be honest we have dark wood cabinets currently. White seems more spacious. I am quite minimalistic in style so not a fan of over busy tiles. I like an open concept kitchen so you can be part of the party whilst you cook, but you do need to stay tidy or else.....it can look very messy.

Like Nina, my kitchen/bathroom cabinetry is white, we have combo stove/oven and I love it! We have a modern barn door leading into the master bathroom, my idea and will stay for all time. We have oil-rubbed bronze hardware throughout the house. High contrast, graphic tile holds no interest.

Not sure who comes up with new trends but am happy with our decor choices, Kathy!

Kathy trends change all the time, but the white kitchen trend has lasted longer than most.

It seems that trends last less than a decade, and then we are on to something else.  I'm beginning to tire of all white kitchens.

Kathy Streib - I'll settle for a white kitchen any day. I don't care what's trending.

I'm not a fan of an open kitchen. I have lots of reasons. Builders are still building them, so until they stop, I don't anticipate them going out of style. Many first-time buyers will think it's the norm or think a separate kitchen would be something new to them!

I remember when graphic style started in new construction. I liked all the designs. Last year when I had a buyer buy new construction, we spent all day just picking out what she wanted for her kitchen. Some of those tiles were absolutely crazy! And if you found one you liked, you had a tough time matching the floors, cabinets, countertops, and appliances. The one in your photograph looks so 70's to me!
