Hiring a Vacant Land Listing Agent Who Protects and Promotes Part 7

Professional is the umbrella that covers all aspects of any role.  In real estate, one can have signage, know and share the directions, be accurate in the information, be local, undertake due diligence, show competency and still not demonstrate professionalism.  So what does it mean to be a professional when looking at actual behaviors?

I defined being a professional as one who:

  • Combines and applies experience with ongoing learning
  • Committed to delivering outstanding customer service beginning promptly answering the phone 
  • Exemplifies and applies emotional intelligence
  • Behaves with the highest integrity and respect Demonstrates appropriate humor
  • Builds trust 
  • Displays a positive attitude when interacting with others

Professionalism goes beyond skills and knowledge as noted above.

Professionalism is an attitude, a habit of thought as well as a behavior as attitudes drive behaviors.

In thinking about professionalism when it comes to being a professional real estate agent, I reflected upon my five plus decades of sales experience including my now seven years of real estate sales experience and rendered being a professional into these two words GRITand GRATITUDE.”

Real estate is an industry where GRIT and GRATITUDE are embedded into many interactions. My belief or better yet attitude is one or both are present in every interaction.

When reviewing all the six previous parts, it is easy to see how these two words are linked to each part and all are designed with the goal in mind to protect and promote the you as the seller:

Part 1  - Signage requires the GRIT to pay for the signs, to place the signs and the GRATITUDE to be grateful for the vacant land listing or when a potential vacant land buyer calls from reading the sign.

Part 2 – Imagine taking photos with 5 plus miles per hours winds, on rocky hilly soil where unfriendly creatures live. That takes GRIT to get it done and GRATITUDE to appreciate the wonders of nature.

Part 3 – Accuracy may require additional research time from securing all permits to tracking actual mileage to the property.  Staying on top of all these requests again requires GRIT and being grateful (GRATITUDE) knowing you are doing what you need to do to protect and promote the seller.

Part 4 – As a local vacant land listing agent, a lot of GRIT is required because you have already traveled hundreds of dirt roads many of which are more like cow trails here in Mohave County.  Again, you have GRATITUDE that you have added to your knowledge and potentially will keep a buyer much safer because you know the terrain as well as the marketplace.

Part 5 – Due Diligence by a vacant land listing agent is to ensure the goals of the seller are achieved those being securing the best price in the shortest amount of time. Unfortunately, here is where some agents drop the ball because they entertain the belief due diligence is 100% on the shoulders of the buyer.  By taking the Sellers Representative Specialist (SRS) certification and designation  they will learn that belief is 100% in error.  Due diligence takes GRIT and by expressing GRATITUDE to all those who have been outreached usually results in much quicker responses.

Part 6 – Competency also takes GRIT by scheduling all those classes, seminars, as well as articles related to real estate.  A professional real estate agent’s schedule is quite full with appointments to investing the time to walk potential vacant land listings. GRATITUDE comes into the picture by being grateful for the instructors who take their time to share their knowledge and the appreciation by clients who are grateful for the real estate agent’s knowledge.

Part 7 - Professionalism

Yes, professionalism is the essence of to protect and promote the client and the general public as well.  However, professionalism comprises many parts are noted above.  For me, I have learned that GRIT and GRATITUDE strengthen my own real estate professionalism and continue to benefit my clients, potential clients, colleagues and friends.

As one of my coaches told me years ago when I said something about getting things done, he said "get up earlier."  Currently our newest dog, Otto the Terrible, awakes me around 4:30am and so I am up early. 


Congratulations on closing and listings.  Believe it or not I had one time consuming closing and notifications of 3 other listings that will be happening within the next 30 days.
