The phrase regarding months of rain followed by colors of flowers is a bit messed up in the Northeast as we had a lot of rain in March, and some warm weather with colors in April and we are in May which should be a cornucopia of colors and we have been wet and cool.
But, we still have colors.
We have a 140 ft driveway, and it is a massive bed of flowers. Iris, daylilies and lily of the valleys. The iris are starting to show their colors but they don't stay around long.
At the center of the garages is an azalea that is always last to bloom.
Along the utility shed are the hydrangeas, which are getting their leaves and should start to show the pods shortly.
Soon the hostas will run their sprouts and offer the white colors and the varirty of colors with their leaves.
We are blessed with all the colors in the yard, none of which is our doing. The original homeowner was a builder and his wife loved flowers. She had him plant all the shrubs and perennials so that they would always have something. My job was just to try and maintain them.
