Grapevine Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park

By
Real Estate Agent with DFW FINE PROPERTIES 0506509

A visit to the Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park in Grapevine, Texas is a quiet and serene place to enjoy. Admission and Parking are free. Open 1/2 hour after sunrise until 1/2 hour before sunset. This tree marker tells the story about the tree photographed below. In reverence, I paused to pay honor to the live Post Oak Tree since the time of the signing of the Constitution!

Never should we forget the immortal words of Alexander Hamilton, American Founding Father, American Military Officer, and Statesman.

A Sacred respect for the constitutional law is the vital principle,

the sustaining energy of a free government.

Alexander Hamilton (January 11, 1755 or 1757 - July 12, 1804

In addition to a tree having a history, a tree tells time. In spring the leaves grow. In fall leaves fall to the ground. Before winter squirrels will be gathering nuts and in spring, birds will fill its branches. Rain, wind, sunshine, rising temperatures, and drought are often taken for granted to our society who has been treated to shelter and technology over time. From sundials, hour glasses, clocks, pocket watches to wrist watches, computers, and iPhone watches, people depend on knowing the time. Once upon a time, before inventors and technology, people depended on the weather. They understood the seasons by observing trees, leaves, and plants in nature.

Water features from the Morehead Branch Creek attract and supports a variety of wildlife in the Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park in Grapevine, Texas. Common wildlife in Grapevine, Flower Mound, Southlake, and other surrounding communities include:

  • Armadillos
  • Bobcat
  • Coyote
  • Opossum
  • Grey Fox
  • Skunk
  • Raccoon
  • Squirrels (3 types, Grey, Flying, and Fox)
  • A large variety of butterflies, dragonflies, birds, and snakes.

Dragonflies are fascinating to observe. They are commonly found hovering over and flying around water. Dragonflies represent different things to different people, such as:

  • Change
  • Transformation
  • Adaptability
  • Prosperity
  • Rebirth

No matter what path we take or bridges we cross, moving forward is beneficial to enjoying quality of life. Through the paths and over the bridges I walked, reflected, and observed the lush green colors of spring after all the abundance of 2024 thunderstorms and rain. Which is by the way the most rain I have experienced since moving to Texas in March 1997. Perhaps the dragonfly, representing change, the butterfly myth symbolizing the spirit's liberation, and the U.S. Constitution are right! If you are ready for a new path in your life or are thinking about moving to the DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) area, let's talk!

Good morning Patricia. The current president should read the Alexander Hamilton quote and abide by it, instead of ignoring it. Enjoy your day.

Dorie Dillard Austin TX - it was a wonderful evening. As I strolled back towards my car, I came upon a building with people inside. As it turned out the Lions Club was having a meeting. The Lion Club Leader saw me sitting by myself with a book. He invited me in to eat dinner with them. Of course, I said, no. But he was very persuasive and insisted I come inside because they had too much food. So, I did. The dinner was great and the people were WONDERFUL!!!

Nina Hollander, Broker - I was humbled and had so many thoughts going through my mind as I stood behind the plaque and saw that tree. It was a patriotic moment. Truly I was amazed!

Thank you for sharing yet another wonderful glimpse of nature in your area. By the way, I've never seen an armadillo or bobcat in the wild. That would be neat...

Enjoy your Friday!

Kat Palmiotti - Armadillos are very slow walkers. Although they look harmless, they can be very destructive. Last winter one burrowed under my house. I had to call the Wildlife people to trap it and then get the hole under my house fixed. That was very expensive! Plus, it took a long time to get the armadillo out and gone!

I prefer bobcat in my yard. They are simply adorable Although many of my neighbors freak out and post on Nextdoor alarming words and they want to know how to get rid of them. I welcome them!

Loved your post and three blocks from our home almost as large as this tree the neighbor spent depending on who you talk to $10-20K for cutting it down... every time I walk Holly, I call him the Murderer:)Endre

Endre Barath, Jr. Murderer! For sure!!! That's horrible that he could be so selfish and heartless to have it cut down. The money he spent could have been used for something more practical or for a donation. But not to cut down an historic tree that has outlived many of our own ancestors! That's a crime!
