The federal holiday, falling on the last Monday of May, honors members of the US armed forces who died serving their country in wars. This year, Memorial Day is on Monday, May 27

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. From 1868 to 1970, it was observed on May 30. Since 1971, it is observed on the last Monday of May

Here are some things you should not do on Memorial Day:
  • DON'T WISH ANYONE A “HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY” ...
  • Do not thank current service member. ...
  • Do not forget about the purpose of the holiday. ...
  • DON'T DISREGARD ITS IMPORTANCE. ...
  • DON'T FORGET IT EXISTS. ...
  • DON'T LET POLITICS KEEP YOU FROM RENDERING RESPECT.

Good morning, Sham... when people say Happy Memorial Day it's like fingernails on a chalk board to me. I grew up knowing Memorial Day as Decoration Day and my mother called it that till the day she died in 1998.
