"Am I Worth Dying For?"Santa Clara Veterans Memorial birds eye view

On Memorial Day, I personally have a tradition of reading aloud-to others, or even just to myself-former first lady Eleanor Roosevelt's Wartime Prayer. At at 3:00 pm, whatever time zone one is in, please remember to either pray for our troops or observe a moment of silence for two minutes.

Eleanor Roosevelt's Wartime Prayer

Dear Lord,

Lest I continue
My complacent way,
Help me to remember that somewhere,
Somehow out there
A man died for me today.
As long as there be war,
I then must
Ask and answer
Am I worth dying for?

It had to be worth dying for when one considers so many people around the world wish they had freedom like ours.

Michelle- I don't remember reading her poem so I am thankful that you shared it. Yes, we must ask ourselves if we are worthy of their sacrifices.

This is an excellent question for all of us to ask ourselves.  I wish more Americans would ask themselves this question.

Memorial Day is always a special day for our family. My wife's uncle served two tours in Vietnam. He did not return from the second tour. His name can be found on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.
