5 Tips for New Realtors | Mainsail Realty Company

I am the Broker/Owner of Mainsail Realty in Miramar Beach, FL.  I have had the pleasure and opportunity to train new agents and I wanted to share some of the tips that I give to our new agents to help them make it in the business.

1.  Read all of the relevant contracts and forms in their entirety and multiple times -  There is so much great info within the contracts and forms.  Having a good feel for the info in the contract will definitely help you succeed in Real Estate.  You need to understand your contracts as you will reference them often and you will receive questions from your customers.

2.  Do not judge your success in Real Estate until you have 1 full year in the business.  If you are not in a position to withstand 1 year of making little or no money.  You should wait until you are in that position.  I have seen many agents make it, but they had a way to hang in there for at least a year.  You can have side hustle like waiting tables, catering, bartending, or another job that will allow you to work on your real estate business during the day.

3.  Learn how to send auto email property updates -  Most MLS systems offer a free property update system.  Start to build this database with friends, family, and prospects.  If someone lives in a neighborhood offer to update them on the new listings and sales.  If someone is looking to purchase, send them the listings within their specific criteria.

4.  Create a Personal Real Estate Website -  There are many affordable website templates.  It will be very hard to get listings with no website.  Also, sign up on every real estate website like Zillow, Trulia, Realtor, Homes.com, etc and create profiles.  When people google you all of your Real Estate websites and profiles should pop up on Page 1 and this will help confirm your validity as a full time agent.

5.  Consider Farming an Area - Farming is a great way to build business.  If you focus on a smaller area, you can work that area, send mailers, blog, and offer to do open houses.  Farming allows you to become known in a smaller area and become a local expert quickly.   Pick an area that you are interested in, make sure they have good sales activity, and market to that area regularly.

I hope you find these tips helpful.
